Ultimate Guide To Eating At Ole Miss

Everyone loves food. It isn’t a secret, so, how can you use your meal plan to the best of your ability? That’s what this guide is for! The freshmen 15 is real and inevitable, so why not gain the 15 pounds in the best places to eat on campus?! Keep reading for the ultimate guide to eating at Ole Miss!

Meal Plans at Ole Miss

Choosing the right meal plan for you is very important for your dining experience. Each meal plan involves a different number of swipes per semester which averages out to a different number of meals per day. In order to pick a meal plan that suits you, you need to know how many meals you typically eat in a day.

Rebel 50 Plus 1

This meal plan includes 50 meal swipes per semester into the Rebel Market, the Grill at 1810, or the Marketplace at the RC. The 50 swipes could also be used in the Student Union for an equivalence of $8.00. In addition to the swipes, you also get Plus 1. Plus 1 is one additional swipe per day that can be used at any Ole Miss dining location for an equivalence of $8.00. This meal plan works out to be one meal per day, so if you don’t eat much or you plan on buying and cooking most of your food then this is the best option for you.

Rebel 100 Plus 1

This meal plan includes 100 swipes per semester into the Rebel Market, the Marketplace at the RC, or the Grill at 1810. Just like the previous plan, the 100 entries can also be used in the Student Union for an $8.00 equivalence. This meal plan also includes a Plus 1 at any Ole Miss dining location that can be used for a meal equivalent to $8.00. This plan averages out to be 2 meals per day for the semester.

Rebel Unlimited Plus 1

Pretty self explanatory, this meal plan allows you an unlimited amount of entries into the Rebel Market, Marketplace at the RC, or the Grill at 1810. You also get a Plus 1 with this plan, where you get one additional swipe into any Ole Miss dining location per day for the semester for an $8.00 equivalence.

This is the meal plan that I personally have and I love that I don’t have to worry about a number of swipes. I can go and eat whenever I want and as many times as I want and it won’t affect the number of swipes I have.

Spring Greek Plans

The Spring Greek Plans are only for spring semester freshmen who joined a Greek organization in the fall.

The Spring Greek 50: Is 50 entries for the semester into the Rebel Market, the Marketplace at the RC, or the Grill at 1810. The 50 entries can also be used in the Student Union for a $8.00 equivalence.

The Spring Greek Plus 1: Can be added on to the Spring Greek 50 so that you can have a Plus 1 swipe for a $8.00 equivalence every day of the semester. This will work at any Ole Miss dining location.

Flex Dollars

Flex Dollars is basically money that can be used to purchase food at all Ole Miss dining locations, on-campus vending machines, and the Starbucks in the Ole Miss Bookstore. All full-time undergraduate students who are under 25 years old will be assessed for Flex Dollars each semester. Flex Dollars are billed to your account with the other registration charges. The remaining balance of Flex Dollars is carried over to the next semester if you do not use all of the money.

Flex Dollars are the perfect solution to wanting some Starbucks when you don’t have the cash or if you are running low on dining hall entries. Beginning with us first-year freshmen, Ole Miss is raising the amount of Flex Dollars assessed. We are given $250 Flex Dollars while the $200 stands for the rest of the student body. In 2017, first and second year students will have the $250, and in 2018 first through third year students will have the $250 Flex Dollars. By the fall of 2019 all Ole Miss students will be assessed for $250 Flex Dollars.

Ole Miss Dining Locations

Rebel Market

The Rebel Market is like an all you can eat buffet. It has several stations which provide a wide variety of food such as: Asian-style food, sushi, pasta, pizza, comfort food, burgers, a salad bar, a dessert section, and much more. The Rebel Market is my personal go-to since its very close to my dorm and I can get a lot of food. When you eat here, I recommend the pizza! That’s a big deal because coming from Jersey, I take my pizza seriously. I also recommend the garden burger from the grill station; it is a great option for vegetarians and I still like it even though I am not a vegetarian myself.

The best part about the Rebel Market is that I can use my carry out box here. When you sign up for a meal plan you can get a to-go box along with some other goodies. You can use this box to put food in to bring back to your room so you can eat in peace. Then when you are done, you can just take it back to the Market the next time you eat and they will give you a new one. The only downfall of the Rebel Market is that it does get really busy at times, especially during lunch.

Marketplace at the RC

The Marketplace is similar to the Rebel Market. You can eat as much as you want and you can choose from 7 different dining venues! They include pizza, home style, international, deli, salad bar, desserts, and made-to-order. This dining location has a very comfortable atmosphere and is more relaxed than the Rebel Market. I personally have not eaten in this location because its a far walk from my dorm, but I’ve heard only good things about it.

The Grill at 1810

The Grill is located in the Olivia and Archie Manning Performance Center. At the Grill, there is a focus on nutrition because many athletes eat here. I also have not yet eaten at this dining location, but many of my friends have. They all have said that they love it and some upperclassmen at orientation said it is the best place to eat on campus! I look forward to eating here more often in the future.

Student Union Food Court

The Student Union is home to several popular chain restaurants such as Chick-fil-A, Panda Express, Subway, Southern Tsunami Sushi, Qdoba, and Toss-It-Up. There is also a P.O.D. Market inside of the Union. My favorites are Chick-fil-A and Qdoba. The Student Union is another place that gets very crowded and the lines do get long, especially the line for Chick-fil-A.

P.O.D. Market

P.O.D. Markets are located in the Student Union, Guyton Hall, Crosby, Lamar, Minor, the Turner Center, and between Martin and Stockard. These are mainly for getting snacks and bottled drinks to eat throughout the day. These locations accept Plus 1 Meals, Flex Dollars, Cash, Credit Cards, Debit Cards, and Express Dollars.

Other Places On Campus

Einstein Bros Bagels

There are two locations: Anderson Hall and in the Law School. Einstein Bros has bagels, sandwiches, salads, wraps, and coffee. They accept Plus 1 meals, Flex Dollars, Express, Cash and Credit.

See Also

Freshii

Freshii is downstairs in Paul B. Johnson Commons, underneath the Rebel Market. It has more nutritious and healthy options. Freshii accepts Plus 1, meals, Flex, Cash, Credit, Debit, and Express.

Papa John’s

Papa John’s has been a life saver for me because there is one down stairs in my dorm, Minor Hall. They have pizza, breadsticks, and wings. They stay open until 2 a.m. and they accept Plus 1, Flex, Cash, Credit, Debit, and Express.

The Pavilion

The Pavilion is the home to the new basketball arena and it also houses Raising Cane’s and Steak and Shake.

Starbucks at the Library

As we all know, Starbucks is home to coffee items galore and to some amazing cake pops! It is located in the J.D. Williams Library. Starbucks accepts Plus 1, Flex, Express, Cash, Credit, and Gift Cards.

There are so many on campus options that work with your meal plan. Personally, I want to get the most out of my money, so I am going to try to eat everywhere at least once. Just make sure that you watch out for that Freshmen 15!!
