The “Freshman 15” is real! Don’t worry about leaving behind your family’s home cooked meals. The University of Miami has so many food options for everyone, it can be difficult to choose. Keep reading for tips on where to go and eat on campus at the University of Miami.
There are two dining halls on the University of Miami Coral Gables campus:
Hecht-Stanford Dining Hall
Mahoney-Pearson Dining Hall
For hours and more information on the dining halls, click here.
If you live on-campus in one of the residential colleges you must purchase an unlimited, 19 meal plan, or 14 meal plan. Meal plans also come with dining dollars that can be used at other food option areas on-campus. Block meal plans are available for upperclassmen.
Both dining halls have been renovated not that long ago, while that’s a plus, I’m going to have to say that the University of Miami is not one of the universities that has exceptional dining hall food. The university does educate students on having a balanced and sustainable diet.
There are also vegan and vegetarian options to accommodate all students. Depending on the day, different types of meals are served at each station within the dining halls. Hecht-Stanford Dining Hall offers late night dining and late night breakfast (available at a certain time during the year).
Located inside the UC is Lime, a fresh Mexican grill. They started out in South Beach and now they have multiple locations in Florida and one in Texas. Lime promises the best ingredients and homemade salsa, sauces and sides to go with your meal. They have quesadillas, tacos, burritos, vegetarian options and fresh guac. You’re also overlooking the student pool and Lake Osceola. Check out that view.
The newly renovated food court is located by the Whitten University Center. Here you can find The Corner Deli with kosher options, Panda Express, Outtakes Quick Cuisine, Tossed, Innovation Kitchen, Subway, Burger 305, Pollo Tropical, and Sushi Maki. The food court is a popular place to go between classes to grab something to eat or just hangout with friends. Students can also stop by the convenience store to grab a snack if they have a limited amount of time.
Right next to the Hurricane Food Court is the Shalala Student Center that opened in the fall of 2013. It has showcases views of Lake Osceola, a popular place for students to take a picture of the University of Miami. The student center has Jamba Juice, Rathskellar(The Rat), Starbucks, and Fresh Fusion. The Rat is the place where students meet, eat and get drinks. They offer a variety of burgers, sandwiches, salads, cheese fries, Cane Mozzarella Stixs, and Hecht Fried Mac & Cheese Bites. You can also order pitchers of beer, wine, Sangria, and Mojitos (if you are @21+).
Halfmoon has a few stations around campus where they sell empanadas, coffee drinks and other snacks. There is one located in the business school, another in the communications school and one more in the Dooley Memorial Building. Students stand in line and wait for their tasty empanadas.
There’s also another Starbucks near Richter Library. The Wellness Center (campus gym) has Courtside Eatery where students and alumni can choose from healthy food options and smoothies after working out. The School of Law offers Einstein Bagels. The University Village has the Village Market Place similar to the campus convenience store, for the UV residents. The Newman Alumni Center opened Sebastian’s Café in 2010 with indoor and outdoor seating. They offer breakfast, lunch and beverages.
There are a lot of options to choose from when you are on campus at the University of Miami. Head outside of the campus and you have a ton more. There’s no time to starve in Miami!
