Why You’ll Never Regret Moving To London

I first moved to London over 4 years ago, as a bright eyed university student with big dreams for the big city- just as stereotypical as it sounds. I had visions of finding the perfect career, with the perfect partner, in the perfect home and the perfect friends… and although that didn’t pan out exactly the way I had planned, I never regretted moving to London.. and here’s why.

1. Its incredible culture.

London has a plethora of different cultures throughout the vast city, each of which has its own different way of life. This has borne life to multitudes of different food, art, fashions, history, religion… all of which can be experienced by anybody looking to learn something outside of their usual day to day lives.

2. The variety of different theatres.

From huge West End shows, to small indie theatre companies, London offers a huge range of different theatre experiences for every taste. With different venues in all corners of the city, ranging from small and relatively cheap shows to huge extravaganzas, there truly is something for everyone.

3. The abundance of food options.

I have touched on food, but in London you could truly eat at a different restaurant every night for the rest of you life… not every single one would necessarily be good, but the game of chance is part of the fun of exploring London’s food options. Hundreds of Chinese, Mexican, Japanese, Italian and countless other restaurants adorn the city streets, each with their own unique flair.

4. The amazing shopping opportunities.

There’s a reason that London is one of the fashion capitals of the world; it’s incredible shopping streets have led to a multitude of different styles throughout the city. With world famous shopping streets such as Oxford Circus, Covent Garden, Carnaby Street and well known department stores such as Selfridges and Harrods, the shopping opportunities within London are endless.

5. Its many beautiful parks.

Within such a densely populated city, it may be surprising to some that there are many vast green spaces dotted throughout the city; each with their own quirks and attractions. Each corner of the city offers its own famous landmark park: Central London has Hyde Park, North has Alexandra Palace Park, South has Greenwich Park, West has Richmond Park and East has the Olympic Park. A whole day can be spent at any of London’s variety of parks, sunbathing, learning the areas history, or just relaxing with friends.

6. The incredible nightlife.

If New York is the city that never sleeps, then London is at least the city that is awake until dawn. With pubs, bars and nightclubs scattered throughout the city, with the biggest concentration being within Central London, each with its own vibe and target audience, the nightlife in London may be up there with the best in the world.

7. The countless travel possibilities.

As the capital, it’s hardly surprising that London has the best transport links in the country. Be it a train to Newquay, a drive to Brighton or a flight to New York, London is the main place of departure to most cities on the earth for England. It’s therefore unsurprising that London is a hub for tourism, attracting people from every corner of the globe, on a holiday or just a stop off.

8. The numerous career opportunities.

From major financial companies, to independent stores and start-up businesses, the career opportunities in London are endless. It’s hardly surprising that more and more people every year flock to London in search of a brighter future. Pick any dream career you’d like to pursue, and there will be a job for you in this huge city.

9. The cities’ extensive history.

England, being an old country, has a huge amount of history… but perhaps no place has more history than London itself. Formed by the Romans, and stretching onwards to present day London has some incredible historical moments contained within its streets. From traditional architecture to long-lasting stories, you can truly learn something new every day about the history of the capital.

10. Just being part of something.

For all the reasons that London is an amazing city to live in, there’s something about it that just makes you feel like you’re a part of something. The hustle and bustle of everyday life here really conjures up a feeling of being joined with the other people within the city; as if you’re living in a huge movie set with each person’s story intertwining into a collective plot. This may sound overly romanticised, and that may be my drama degree coming out, but London really does have a special feeling to all those living within it.
