It’s hard to leave behind people you love when you go to uni. Well, maybe you shouldn’t. Here’s why you should go to uni with your high school sweetheart.
Being apart while experiencing the same things can be really difficult. Making new friends and changing as a person can often lead to fights and feelings of jealousy when all we want to do is experience everything together. But we can’t if we’re a million miles away from that one person we want to share it all with.
University life gives us the chance to actually grow up properly (and not just walking to the bus on our own) and means getting things right and wrong together without feeling silly. Knowing that you’re not alone is so comforting.
Having a friendly face is much more comforting than you realize – until you really need one. Everything changes at university, so having your best mate there with you makes things not feel as bad.
Making new friends means that they don’t know you have that weird side – the side only your true friends have seen. Being in a new place can be scary and finding new places to explore is what keeps the time till your home, ticking over. And sometimes you just want to do that with someone who understands your weirdness.
How reliable are new people? Not very at the best of times. You don’t really know them and they don’t really know you so by having, even if it’s just one friend to count on makes the world of difference.
You really want to make the most of freshers. You will meet a whole community of people and make friends with people who you really didn’t think were your kind of people, but that’s the best part!! Don’t limit yourself. Just because you have this 1 friend who is everything you could ever want, doesn’t mean you can just have them, you need others and having someone you can make friends with, together is just a bonus.
There will be times where you won’t be able to see them, it will be the hardest thing and it will feel impossible. I assure you, it’s not. Being together will make you appreciate having each other because there will be people who won’t have someone like you do, so you have no idea how lucky you are.
Just think of this as the ‘next step’, or not if that scares you. But being away is hard, yes another thing that makes university one of the hardest things. Life gets in the way and messes up, you’ll fight and feel like your whole world is crashing down but if you think it’s worth it, then that’s all that matters.
Being away from anyone that you love is difficult so having them there for support is great! However, missing them shows you that you really don’t know what you’ve got until its gone. (As in they’re gone) Which is so good when they’re there but when they’re gone – it sucks.
At the end of the day, if you both want to study together, then do it, go ahead, spread your wings. There is nothing stopping you, it’s both of your decision and I guarantee there will be people wishing they were you.
