Why Stand-Up Comedy Is The Best First Date

You know the drill. You’ve matched with this scorcher, an absolute worldie, on Tinder and you’ve been having a great time in the chat section. Not only is this person stunning, but they’re smart, funny and they seem genuinely interested in you. You’ve become so quickly infatuated that you’ve already suggested going out together.

But now it’s panic stations, because what the hell are you going to do on that first date?

You could suggest a coffee or a meal, but then you need to be able to keep engaging conversation going for the whole time you’re together, and there’s a risk you’ll be struck speechless in the presence of their sheer hotness. How about a movie? But then you won’t be able to speak at all, and how is this virtual vixen supposed to know how funny you are if you can’t speak? It’s going to have to be some sort of activity that hits a happy medium. But how are you supposed to know what someone else likes when you barely even know them? Should you just pick something that you like, hoping they like it too? But what if they hate it or think it’s lame and, by extension, think you’re lame too? There are just too many risks.

Fortunately, there’s a solution…

Stand-up comedy is the ultimate tonic to this first-date malady, successfully plugging the holes that other potential first-dates can hold. There will be constant entertainment, preventing awkward pauses, but the gaps in between sets will allow you to get to know them a bit, as well as giving you an opportunity to tell all of your hilarious jokes, too. It’s also a perfectly acceptable environment to have a few drinks, so you can get loosen up a bit and get wavy with the Adonis that’s agreed to go out with you.

Even when it’s bad, it’s good

This is the beauty of stand-up comedy: when you go to a good stand-up gig, you spend the whole time trying to stop your sides from splitting apart. If a gig is good and you’re both enjoying a hilarious headliner tell killer joke after killer joke, it’s a positive experience. But, if you’ve skimped out on cheap tickets to a club with a lot of newcomers, you’re more likely to see some poor newbie absolutely bomb on stage, and that can be great fun too. If you’re not laughing at the show, you can joke together about how terrible the act was. As long as you’re both laughing, it’s all gravy.

Laughing is the best medicine

Laughter is a classic ice-breaker, particularly because of the effect it has on the body. Laughing creates a release of both dopamine and endorphins, both of which are know for improving mood and making everything a little easier and more comfortable. Dopamine is also greatly associated with lust and libido so, if you’re looking to make this first date especially memorable, getting the laughing going can help get this beauty out of their clothes.

The post-show fun

Stand-up comedy is usually an evening event and, assuming you and your date have been drinking heavily during the show (which you should have been), you’re now well set for the night to continue in any bar or club of your choice. You’ve had a good time laughing at some great (or not so great) jokes, and now it’s time for the real fun to begin.
