It’s pumpkin farm season! September is officially here, and that means it’s almost October, aka pumpkin-picking season, Halloween, and the start of beautiful autumnal leaves falling from trees! Pumpkin picking can be a simple and fun day out for everyone, from your family to your friends. It could maybe even be a cute date idea! You can get big ones, medium ones, or even mini ones if you live in a place with not much space – either way, here are some of the best places in the UK to go pumpkin picking this season!
Crockford Bridge is a medium-sized farm in Surrey that has a large pumpkin patch full of – you guessed it – pumpkins! They come in every size, from tiny to huge, and you can pick everything out yourself, so the experience is more authentic. Plus, they even have a spot set up for photo taking! The prices are also relatively low, and when my friend and I visited last year we found they had a few fun activities on for children, as well as a couple of food stands for snacking. There is also a farm shop full of delicious wholesome food and a garden centre (yes, we had to take a look at the Christmas decorations too). Make sure to bring cash though because they didn’t accept card at the actual pumpkin part when I visited!
Based in Warrington, this farm goes above and beyond for pumpkin season! Each pumpkin is grown by Farmer Todd, who makes sure every pumpkin is up to standard. Pumpkin-picking is obviously the most popular activity here, but throughout the year you can pick different fruits depending on the season. There is also a farm shop, café, and a maze, so you definitely won’t get bored! This is a great pumpkin farm to visit!
Head to Wolverhampton to encounter 10 different varieties of pumpkin at more than reasonable prices. There are over 10,000 different pumpkins planted, waiting to be picked! You even get a free tractor ride out to the patch – you can’t deny that’s pretty cool. As with most farms, there isn’t just a pumpkin patch – you can head to the farm shop, get lost in the maze, stock in in the butchery or deli, or, if you have little ones, let them loose in the play area. Dates vary, but pumpkins are normally available in the days leading up to Halloween.
Situated in Pembrokeshire, Brooksgrove Farm is a free-entry farm area which grows seasonal produce and has a massive pumpkin patch perfect for Halloween! They also grow their own flowers to supply to local florists, but you can also purchase some to gain brownie points from your significant other! Nothing says I love you like handpicked flowers! The pumpkin patch itself opens in October every year and is perfect for all ages, but there are activities specifically aimed at small children. As with any farm and the UK weather, it can be muddy, so bring some wellington boots!
Located in Fife, this Scottish farm at 120 acres is more than big enough for an entire day out. With a farm shop, café, so-called ‘maze funyard’, and lots more, this farm would be perfect for taking your nieces and nephews out for some Autumnal fun! They also grow sunflowers and seasonal fruits, as indicated by the name, so don’t be surprised if you go for pumpkins and come out with bags full of juicy, just-picked fruit!
