What To Do Around Staffordshire University When You’re Broke AF

University is expensive, but enjoying your spare time doesn’t have to be. Now, We all promise ourselves that we’ll be more careful with our money when our loan drops, but the last couple of weeks before, our savior, Student Finance comes in, we all think to ourselves did I really need that one take-away, three weeks ago? During these last few weeks it’s easy to sit in and eat the remainder of food we have left, but fear not you can actually go out and enjoy yourself… for free! Here are five, fun, free things to do when you’re broke AF at Staffordshire University!

1. Ping-Pong!

Whose ever idea it was to put Ping-Pong tables outside LRV, the campus nightclub is a genius! Drunk Ping-Pong anyone?

Now, you don’t have to be drunk to enjoy this. Next time you visit the Leek Road Campus bring a friend and pick up a paddle and become the next Ping-Pong Champion?

Or, if that fails you could just kill some time hanging out with friends whilst not spending a dime!

2. The Potteries Museum!

You’ve probably seen the word Museum and decided you’re going to skim read this paragraph, or maybe you’ve skipped it entirely… if you’re still here, thank you!

Despite popular beliefs, museums are actually fun and interesting! Most Museums and art galleries in the Midlands are actually free, as they mainly stay open due to donations.

So go out with your friends, or maybe that special someone and go support the local Museums and Galleries!

3. Cannock Chase!

This option is for the people who want a whole day out, not just those looking to fill in a few hours. If you don’t consider travel cost, or traveling for 45 minutes Cannock Chase is a great starting point for a cheap, action packed, day!

Cannock Chase is home to some of the midlands best biking trails and woodland walks, so if you and your friends want to become one with nature, this should be at the top of your list when you’re broke AF at Staffordshire University!

It’s one of the most beautiful spots within Staffordshire, and it’s home to three different types of Deer! Red deer, Muntjac and Fallow deer. (The Fallow deer being the most common with their numbers in the 300’s!). It’s a perfect place to try out wildlife photography or, even if you just want to get up close to these beautiful creatures. If you’re feeling adventurous head straight for Cannock Chase and enjoy nature up close and personal! It’s sure to be an unforgettable moment when you’re broke AF at Staffordshire University.

4. Hanley Park!

Only a five-minute walk from the College Road Campus, this community park is great for a stroll. The park is open 24/7 and is full of fun things to fill your time up with.

For the more active people out there, there is fishing lakes, basketball courts, and football pitches, and for the more chill members of the public, you can enjoy the many picnic areas and the bowling greens, all whilst being surrounded by the beautiful landscape.

Hanley Park also holds different events throughout the year, so keep your eye out! You never know what they may have coming up!

5. Clubs and Societies at the University!

When you first came to University everyone started harassing you to join a Club or a Society, and it began to get so overwhelming a lot of students just ignored them and hid away, but the thing is it’s a great way to make friends and do something other than sitting alone in your room! They’ll keep you busy when you’re broke AF at Staffordshire University.

So give it a go, what have you got to lose? Go online and have a look at all the different options Staffs offers, and some do cost, but there are also a lot which doesn’t cost a thing!

There are so many different options to choose from, you’ll definitely find something you enjoy doing, from video games societies to swimming clubs, you’ll be sure to find something to fill your time with without emptying your wallets!

Enjoying university doesn’t mean having to spend your whole loan on alcohol in two weeks flat! (Remember you need to buy food to live!)

Travel, you’ll be surprised how much is free!
