What To Do Around UWE When You’re Broke AF

It’s coming to that point in the year when you’re probably lacking in the money department, but are itching to get out of the house, I know that’s definitely me! With University of the West of England only a short bus ride away from the centre of Bristol, you’re only a £3 all day bus pass away from an abundance of interesting and free things to keep you occupied. Here is what to do when you’re broke AF at UWE.

1. Take a stroll around Bristol Museum and Art Gallery

The majority of the places in this post are up towards Clifton, so make sure you grab some comfy shoes- there’s a lot of walking involved. Right, so you get off the UWE express at Rupert-street and are walking up the pretty, but steep hill of Park street- Let’s make the most os the gorgeous Wills Memorial building (perfect for a photo opt). But I bet you didn’t know that the Bristol Museum and Art Gallery which is attached to the Wills Building is free! It’s a lot bigger than you think, with exhibitions about dinosaurs to 18th-century art, I’m sure you will find something in here to take your fancy.

2. Why not climb up Cabot Tower?

If museums aren’t your thing, or you just want to make the most of the beautiful sunshine, then go have a little wonder over to Cabot Tower. This is only a 5-minute walk away from the museum so you could do both very easily in one day. *Note: this is not a good shout for those of you who are claustrophobic as the stairs are very steep and very narrow. But I promise that the view you get from the top is worth it. This is definitely a good place to go if you’re a Skins fan, as the park the tower is in features a lot, especially in the early series.

3. Take a walk along Clifton Suspension Bridge

The next is probably a bit of an obvious one, but still worth a look- Clifton Suspension Bridge and observatory. You can either do the half hour walk up to Clifton to see it or just grab the bus! If you have lovely weather, this is a great spot to take plenty of photos and have a little wander round cute Clifton Village.

4. Time to grab some food

Now, if you do this all in one day like me and my friends did- you’re going to be very hungry when you’re done! Bella Italia is a great stop for students Sunday-Thursday as they have a huge discount of 50% off Classic Pizzas and pasta, and 2-4-1 cocktails. Well worth a stop if you’re counting the pennies, but want something yum to eat.

If Italian isn’t your thing, be sure to sign up to Unidays for some really good student deals on all sorts of food (and clothing!).
