Weddings these days have fewer and fewer rules because couples are just more progressive than they used to be and a wedding can be fancy dress, evening or day or even on a beach. And while that is great it means what the hell do we wear? As a woman there isn’t a lot of freedom on what to wear anyway as there as so many forbidden colours. And let’s be honest you want to wear something nice to someone’s wedding so they will wear something as nice to yours. We don’t want hot pants and cowgirl boots we want sophistication and class. Still, while you have a lot more freedom than you may have had 10 years or so ago, there are a few things to remember while getting dressed to be respectful of the ceremony and the people getting married. Let’s get into it, shall we? Here are the wedding fashion tips every lady should follow.

Don’t wear white

I feel like this one is really obvious. DO NOT WEAR WHITE TO A WEDDING. Why would you want to steal away the limelight from the bride; this is not your day it is hers! Your day will come, hopefully.

If you want to wear a pale colour try something nude or pastel like these:

• Don’t wear denim

Denim just isn’t classy at all. So unless the theme of the wedding is hillbilly do not wear jeans. If you are a trouser wearer then wear something smart and tailored. Maybe a cigarette pants or paper bag waist trouser; perfect with heels and a nice top. Try these:

• Stick to the dress code

A major wedding rule to follow is obviously stick to the dress code. If you want to add accessories like a fascinator that’s fine as long as it matches the dress code set out in the invite. Usually the go to is a nice dress and heels or a jumpsuit like so:

• Leave the joggers at home

We all like to be comfortable but a wedding is not the place for tracksuit bottoms and hoodies. If you want to wear something comfy try a cotton dress or cotton trousers like these:

• Don’t wear any fancy headgear

Do not wear anything like a tiara. The bride is the only woman who can wear whatever she wants on her head. If you want to wear something wear a nice hat or fascinator like these:

• Cover your shoulders

If the wedding is in a church then it is best really to cover your shoulders. An appropriate way to do so would either be to wear a sleeved dress or bring with you a cardigan, shrug, shawl or blazer. My favourite shrug is this one:

• Don’t be risky

Everybody likes to look nice but do not go for a low plunged dress you would wear to a club. You need to wear something modest and classy, which does not show all of your valuables.  No bride wants their guests to strut around with their boobs or bum out. If you are a risk taker who likes to bare all do it in a fashionable way with a low back dress that covers the knee or with a classy dress like this:

• Don’t wear the colour scheme

Most wedding fashion tips have a colour scheme which appears in the bridesmaid dresses, ties and flowers. Make sure you know the colour scheme beforehand and DO NOT wear it as people will mistake you for a bridesmaid. Also make sure your dress isn’t in the style of a bridesmaid dress as there is such a thing as being too fancy.
