With the growing concern of excessive plastic in the world that has yet to decompose, we are entering a crisis in which people need to reduce wastage and live more sustainably. However, it’s difficult to simply begin cutting down everything immediately, but there are small steps you can take to lessen your impact on the environment in your own way. Any action is better than no action so it’s never too late to do your part today.
Plastic takes years to ever decompose and it’s time to reduce the amount of plastic consumption as possible. Small steps you can take to switch to reduce wastage is buying water bottles that’ll last, traveler cups, tote bags for groceries, bringing cutlery from home and investing in good Tupperware. To continue experiencing the taste and comfort you deserve, invest in stuff that will last. This can mean glass or steel water bottles instead of plastic ones and gear that you know will be able to break down eventually after excessive use.
I don’t know who needs to hear this but you don’t need to eat out all the time. Save money, excessive wastage, and improve your health by meal prepping your food in advance to bring from home. In fact, you probably don’t need to eat out as much as you do. Especially for takeaway that just causes more plastic. I’m just kidding, don’t push yourself too hard from the get-go and cut out eating out altogether (as beneficial as that is) but at least, you can start with meal prepping.
It’s hard not to indulge in what you love especially when they define everything that you are. However, you don’t need to start sacrificing everything straight away. Start easy. Choose sustainable fashion made from natural materials that are good for the environment and invest in what will last. Fast fashion is a great contributor to wastage and you can reduce waste today by even switching to thrifting clothes. Pop by your next Sunday flea market and who knows, maybe you will find a loved item that’ll last you without even breaking the bank.
Similar to fashion, beauty and skincare are so hard to give up! Think about all the beautiful and magical makeup palettes and moisturizers to try! Small steps you can use is to switch to using more biodegradable makeup wipes and reusable makeup pads! There are plenty on the market that can easily be thrown into the wash to use again and again. If you don’t want to buy them, you can easily make them yourself from old towels and cloths. With any makeup or skincare that you didn’t like and have barely used, don’t be so quick to throw it out! Donate them to women charities for individuals who aren’t as blessed as you!
Not only are house plants excellent additions to room decor, but it’s a great way to really step up your lifestyle. Start small and plant pots of herbs at home by yourself! It’s a lot easier than it sounds and saves you one more trip to the market. With all the planting you are about to do, throw all those excess dead plants, vegetable peels, and food wastage into a compost bin! The soil from your composting will definitely come back to help you grow even more plants and before you know it, you’ll be surrounded in a jungle. Plants are a great hobby that can easily be low maintenance or a battle of wits depending on how you want to do it!
