We don’t always have the luxury of being able to plan our going-out outfits. Sometimes spontaneous occasions arise and you need a quick way to take your outfit from day to night – without causing too much hassle for yourself! Here are some quick tips to help your outfit transition seamlessly from day to night.
Adding some cute hoop earrings or a choker can really kick your outfit up a notch. An outfit that looks casual during the day can really pop when you add the right jewelry. Try some statement earrings or layered necklaces to bring some sparkle to a worn-out look. Try to keep your jewelry coordinated (e.g. all gold or all silver) to really exude sophistication.
Choosing the right footwear can make the biggest difference when taking an outfit from day to night. Sometimes this option is less practical – we don’t all carry spare shoes with us – but if it fits with the circumstances it can be a lifesaver! Swap your daytime converse for some chunky heels for an instant nighttime look.
If your night out is in need of a more casual look, heeled boots or sandals can dress up an outfit without looking overdone. It goes without saying though that comfort is key! If you know that you’d struggle wearing heels all night then don’t torture yourself! Opt for something you feel comfortable in as well as stylish.
It goes without saying that makeup can really dress up an outfit. Daytime makeup is normally basic and no-frills, so an easy way to make an entrance at nighttime is by adding a little extra to that makeup routine. In these situations, time can be of the essence so we’re talking nothing crazy! If you have time to do a full smoky eye look then by all means do – but a quick and easy way to take your look from day to night is with a pop of highlight on your cheekbones. This looks effortless and takes no time but you’ll look refreshed and ready for the night ahead.
A subtle element such as your handbag can really make a difference in taking your outfit to the next level. During the day we normally aim for practicality and carry a bag that’s fit for purpose and probably something like a backpack or messenger bag. At nighttime an easy way to add some sophistication to your outfit is to go for something classy like a clutch bag – this will make any outfit look instantly sleeker and it’s actually easy to fit a small nighttime bag inside your daytime bag so you can swap them over!
Depending on what your plans are for the night, sometimes your daytime parka or denim jacket will work well, but sometimes a change of jacket can be an easy way to add something extra to a tired outfit. During winter a trench coat or – if you’re feeling a bit edgier – even a biker jacket can liven up your look. In summer opt for an elegant blazer or even no jacket at all – if your daytime outfit has been covered with a jacket all day you can transform your look just by showing off what you’ve been wearing underneath!
By following these tips you’ll never be caught in that situation of being forced to go out in an outfit you’ve worn all day – and feeling anything less than fabulous! You can quickly dress up any outfit and feel good as new and ready for the exciting nights ahead.
