Makeup is something women use to express themselves and individuality- an art. It provides confidence, aesthetic, style and completion to any outfit. Yet most importantly it is used as a statement for the innermost girl boss personality. However, less is definitely more. There is a beauty in embracing that simple glow and allowing your freckles to shine through! A powerful message in enhancing the beauty that you already possess. Want to know the beauty secrets in making your makeup routine more au natural? We got your back!
To attain a naturally smooth, skin glowing look, skin care is the most essential step. Exfoliation is vital, to clear the skin of unwanted oils blocked within pores. Any products that are placed directly on non-exfoliated skin will appear very ‘caked’ and make you appear to be wearing much more makeup than you actually do!
Moisturiser is also a necessity to vitalise your skin and prep it for the application of products in your makeup routine. Select a moisturiser with natural oils to nourish and hydrate your skin for a natural dewy look, as your skin will soak up all that goodness, and thank you for it later! Natural oils such as almond oil and coconut oil are great non-chemical alternatives.
Foundation sits quite heavily above the skin, usually suppressing your skins natural glow and movement. Therefore use concealer within your makeup routine as an alternative, to only conceal selections of your skin that show relative dullness and uneven skin tone i.e nose blemishes or under eye circles. Loose powders and tinted moisturisers are also great options as they begin at a very light coverage, and one layer can be perfect for just a small lift in your overall complexion.
Application techniques are also a priority to focus on because the wrong applicators can put an excess of product on your skin and give an uneven texture across the face. Try blending small amounts of concealer/tinted moisteriser at a time using a water saturated beauty blender or a flat foundation brush.
The key focus with nude lips and gloss is to match your natural lip colour and enhance what you already have. Usually, over-lining your lips with a colour that matches your natural lips, can make you have a natural pout, without the need of a bold colour application. Gloss can also highlight your lips and shape again without the need of heavy lip colours to take away from your natural look not to mention keeping them hydrated too!
Clumpy, thick spider eyelashes are a no-go when wanting a natural eye look. Try avoiding a mascara that adds volume and replace it with a mascara that focuses on lengthening instead. If your hair colour is a light shade, you may find it a better choice to opt for the brown shade rather then black, as it will lessen the overall intensity and appear more ‘natural’. One coat is usually the optimum amount, as it will accentuate your natural lashes and darken them slightly, to make that eye colour pop! Also don’t forget eyelash curlers are a must in your makeup routine, as curled lashes give shape and structure to your eyes.
Eyebrows that are drawn on using a gel, are often quite heavy overall, as they sit on the face very rigidly. Try enhancing the natural shape and growth of the hairline within your brows by brushing in an upwards motion and then applying a brow mascara. This is ideal as it does not neglect the individual hairs that lay within your brows, in addition to giving you shape that follows your natural brow line.
The whole idea of having a natural makeup look is to embrace what you already have. Usually quicker upon application and much less maintenance, once you master the perfect natural look for your complexion and skin type, you will realise that this makeup routine will become your best friend! A natural glowing you can never go out of style!
