Waxing vs Shaving: Which Is The Best Hair Removal Method For You?
The season of beach holidays, bikinis and sunbathing is here, we all love a bit of sun with a beautiful view and a nice cold PiƱa Colada. What we don’t love is the time and hassle we have to put in to remove the hair off our bodies before becoming beach ready. Most women have their own technique for hair removal which they have been using for the majority of their lives and swear by, but do we all really know the pros and cons of the method that we are using. Shaving and waxing seem to be the most popular methods of hair removal among women and we are about to analyse which technique is really the best method for you. Here’s what to know about waxing vs shaving:
ShavingĀ
Firstly, for those who may be unsure shaving is a method of hair removal which removes the surface of the hair with a razor. When you intially go through puberty and begin to discover hair growth on your body the easiest option encouraged to remove the hair, is shaving. But before we delve into the comparisons between shaving and waxing, let’s look at the pros and cons.
Pros
Shaving is a quick and inexpensive method of hair removal, to complete the task the only products you need is a clean razor and shaving cream or even shower gel. It is a convenient method as it can be done in the comfort of your own home or anywhere else at any time.
Cons
As shaving only removes hair from the surface of the skin, the hair begins to grow back within 2-3 days and the regrowth is often a lot thicker, so you’d have to carry out this method extremely often. You are also highly prone to ingrown hairs which may cause razor bumps, infection or inflammation and nicks or cuts.
Waxing
In comparison to shaving, waxing removes the hair from the root either using hot or cold wax. It can be quick, but definitely requires more of your time as you have to book an appointment with a salon, depending on the area you are waxing and the amount of hair you have.
Pros
Waxing removes hair from the root resulting in smoother skin and long lasting results, if youāre lucky you won’t experience regrowth till about 2 to 3 weeks after your wax and once the hair does grow back it is much finer than before. Waxing is definitely more sanitary and as you continue to wax regularly your hair follicles will weaken which reduces the amount of hair growth.
Cons
Again, waxing can be time consuming, it can take around 15 to 45 minutes to complete. Obviously the main con which makes most people feel hesitant about waxing is the pain, although it isn’t as painful as it seems, depending on the area of the body, the length of the hair and your pain tolerance it can vary. When you are getting a wax you are required to have a minimum hair length of one centimetre and it is possible to get ingrown hairs. It is also a more pricey form of hair removal with prices which range from Ā£15 to Ā£45.
Overall I think itās clear to see that waxing is the best method in terms of efficiency and longevity because you are bare for a lot longer which is the main purpose of the process of hair removal. However, it is definitely more time consuming in comparison to shaving, so the best method really depends on your lifestyle and the amount of free time you have to dedicated to your hair removal. Some women donāt have the time or finances to sit in a salon and wait and other women donāt have the patience or energy to shave every fortnight.Ā It is all based on which method is the most convenient for you and which method fits around your lifestyle, that is how you will know which method is best for you. So what do you think, are you #Teamshaving or #Teamwaxing?
