The Top 10 Video Games You Need To Play Over Summer Break

The popularity of video games gets larger every year, and with the new rise of battle royale games, we take a look at the top 10 video games you absolutely need to play over summer.

1. Apex Legends

EA’s newest blockbuster game was released in early 2019 and it has taken the world by storm. It’s free to play and requires you to team up in triplets and fight other squads until you’re the only team left, crowning you the Apex Champions. There are 8 different legends you can play as and each has a unique ability, skillset and ultimate power. It’s fun and you’re going to love it.

2. Metro: Exodus

The third instalment of the Metro saga, this game is set in Russia after a nuclear fallout, and people have taken to living in metro stations throughout the country, hence the name. A story-driven first person shooter, you’re tasked with taking an army known as the Rangers throughout the Russian wasteland, coming across mutants and bandits. If you love story-based games and post-apocalyptic wastelands, this one is perfect for you.

3. Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice

The game follows a shinobi known as Sekiro during the Sengoku period as he attempts to take revenge on a samurai who attacked him and kidnapped his lord. Similar graphics to the Dark Souls series, but completely different as it has no RPG aspects whatsoever, the combat and scenery are what make this game fantastic, as well as the in-depth story.

4. Call Of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered

I realise the original of this game is ten years old, and that the remaster is a year old now, but with it recently becoming free for PS Plus users I’ve realised just how good this game was. The story is amazing, full of depth of character and intensity of the story. Not to mention the multiplayer is pretty good too. If you can get this game, definitely do.

5. Fortnite

Another battle royale game from the developers over at Epic, this game is now in its 8th season and has been going strong since 2017, yet it is still one of the biggest games on the planet. Play solos, duos or squads of four to outlast everybody else and get the Victory Royale.

6. God Of War

This game is a Playstation Exclusive, which means if you play on any other console, or PC, you can’t enjoy this game. But for those of you who can, you will definitely want to. You play as Kratos, a Norse man with the power of a God, and you must take his son on a deeply personal quest in order to achieve your goal after being banished from Mount Olympus. God of War takes you on a breathtaking journey through the harsh terrain of an unforgiving world. Third person action game that you need to try.

7. Red Dead Redemption 2

John Marsden is long gone, and now Arthur Morgan is the one you’re controlling. After a bank robbery goes awry, you must fight against bandits and bounty hunters to keep the stolen loot. While a lot of the game involves violence and fighting, there is a very dramatic story line, and the plot draws you in and forces you to form an emotional bond to the characters. This game is one of the best ever released and you need to make it a priority.

8. Horizon: Zero Dawn

You play as Aloy, a young hunter on a quest to discover her destiny among the remnants of the ancient past.  Shunned by her own tribe since birth, Aloy has learned to harness her agility, cunning, and deadly aim to hunt the Machines, defend against rival tribes, and survive in the unforgiving wilds. This is another Playstation exclusive, but they’re often the best games. Remember The Last of Us?

9. Tom Clancy’s The Division 2

The Division 2 is an action-shooter RPG set in an open-world. You can play in co-op and PvP modes that offer more variety in missions and challenges, new progression systems with unique twists and surprises, and fresh gaming innovations to engage players for years to come. Tom Clancy is a staple in the video game industry, bringing classics such as Splinter Cell and Rainbow Six.

10. Days Gone

With humanity devastated by a global pandemic and ravaged by feral creatures known as Freakers, any mistake could be your last in your attempt to carve out a new life in the hostile Pacific Northwest high-desert. You play as former outlaw biker Deacon St. John, a bounty hunter trying to find a reason to live in a land surrounded by death. The environment is both your friend and your enemy in this game – use your surroundings wisely. Another Playstation exclusive.
