10 Vacations To Go When You Really Need To Decompress
We’ve all got to that stage before: you’ve worked non-stop for months on end and feel stressed, tired and certainly not your best. You begin to scour the internet for flights and hotels to plan your next holiday, because let’s face it, at this point, it’s the only thing that’s keeping you going. But you have no idea where to go. That’s where I come in: here are 10 vacations to go on when you need to decompress.
For ease these are all European holidays: they are the cheapest vacations to go for UK citizens!
1. Amsterdam, Netherlands
Sure, it’s known for its legalisation of cannabis and the red light district, but that isn’t all that this city has to offer. The river Amstel runs through the city and you can go on all types of river cruises down it. There’s also the Van Gog museum and the Anne Frank museum for anyone who has an interest in history.
2. Paris, France
I know this is cliche, but it’s cliched for a good reason! With the Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum and the Arc de Triomphe all packed into the city, it’s a great pick if you love sightseeing. The palace of Versailles is also a short trip away, as is Disneyland Paris.
3. Sofia, Bulgaria
The capital of the Balkan city of Bulgaria, Sofia is a stunning city which hosts the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the National Historical Museum. There are also loads of free tours around the city to show you the best spots.
4. Rome, Italy
You already know what is in Rome: the Colosseum, St. Peter’s Basilica and the Trevi Fountain. Not only is this hot and sunny in the sunny months (which definitely isn’t guaranteed in European countries). It’s also where the Pope lives if anyone is religious and wants to explore their spirituality.
5. Prague, Czech Republic
With the Vltava River running through it, there are river tours you can go on to admire the gothic architecture are scenery. There are also places such as Charles Bridge dating back to the 14th Century for people who enjoy looking back in time.
6. Copenhagen, Denmark
With colourful canals and 19th Century amusement park Tivoli Gardens, this is a fun trip away from the hustle and bustle of your working life. There is also lots of famous architecture to enjoy, such as the little mermaid, made of bronze.
7. Salamanca, Spain
Home to Salamanca Cathedral and the Plaza Mayor, this is a gorgeous Spanish city which is located just west of Madrid. This also features a shell-covered Spanish gothic palace, which is something you won’t see in many other places.
8. Vienna, Austria
With many baroque and 18th Century palaces, this city is on the Danube river and remind you of the regal lives of the 18th Century nobles. There is also the Vienna State Opera for anyone who likes the arts. If sports is your thing, you can also take a cycling tour along the river to see all the scenery while building up a sweat.
9. Berlin, Germany
This is a popular holiday destination for a reason: the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag Building and the East Side Gallery allow people to discover more history. There is of course also the Berlin Wall which can be visited.
10. Warsaw, Poland
Warsaw old town has many upscale restaurants and the Royal Castle and Lazienki Park. With beautiful scenery and the Palace for Arts and Culture which is a 1950s Soviet landmark.
