10 Unique Brews Of Beer That You Must Taste ASAP

There’s been an increase in homemade beer brewing in the last several years. Thanks to this, more adventurous ideas are being tried. Here are 10 unique brews of beer that you must taste ASAP!

Mamma Mia – Pizza Beer

You’re on the couch enjoying an entire box of pizza with a beer. You’re greasy and disgusting. You’re shirt’s stained. It’s hot. Flies swarm around you.  Do you know what would take this scenario to its zenith? If the pizza and the beer were to be combined. Imagine the heights you would ascend to (or depths you’d fall to, depending on perspective) if you could put pizza, that time-worn, dependable meal, into a bottle.

You don’t have to imagine. It’s been done. It contains basil, oregano, tomato, and garlic.

Funky Buddha Brewery – Maple Bacon Coffee Porter

This porter essentially re-creates the breakfast of champions. This award-winning beer contains the aromas of maple and freshly roasted coffee and on the palate tastes of sticky syrup followed by creamy espresso and salty, smoky bacon. It sounds too good to be true, although if it were unbalanced this thing would be a monstrosity. By all accounts, it pulls it off.

Rogue Ales/Voodoo Doughnut – Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana Ale

A collaboration between Rogue Ales and Voodoo Doughnut, it contains a dozen ingredients including chocolate, banana, and peanut butter, to match with Vodoo’s ‘Memphis Mafia’ doughnut. What better way to satisfy your alcohol cravings and sugar cravings at the same time? In my humble opinion, there are few things in life as good as chocolate and peanut butter.

Adding banana certainly won’t hurt. It’s great in lots of things. If drunk too often, we’d have to rename this to diabetes beer.

Two Birds Brewing – Taco

Two Birds Brewing is a Melbourne based brewing company, the first in Australia to be female-owned. The beer incorporates all the fresh flavours from Tacos. It’s a hoppy ale, brewed with corn, coriander leaf,  and fresh lime peel. It’s fresh, fruity, and zesty. The beer won a Craft Beer Award for specialty beers in 2014.

Nomad Brewing – Freshie Salt N’ Pepper Gose

Beer that tastes like seawater. Can this possibly be a good idea? There exists in Germany an obscure style of beer called Gose uses salted water as one its ingredients. Nomad Brewing, based in NSW, used this style to capture the essence of the Northern Beaches.

The saltwater used comes from Freshwater Beach, just down the road from the brewery. Aside from that, pale and wheat malts are used, along with Willamette hops and German ale yeast. It also includes Tasmanian mountain pepper. The beer tastes salty, spicy and has a refreshing quality.

Thornbridge Brewery – Bracia

This beer has been infused with dark and bitter chestnut honey. Chestnut, honey, cappuccino, white chocolate, dark fruits, and vibrant fresh peel make up the aromas. Once on the palate, there are notes of coffee, chocolate, liquorice, hazelnuts with warming alcohol, cocoa and some peat at the end. Malts include Maris Otter and Roasted Barley. Hops include Target and Sorachi Ace.

Feral Brewing – Watermelon Warhead

Warhead candies were the stuff of many of our childhoods. You would endure a lot of pain in order to taste sweetness. Like life, I suppose. This beer seems to have nothing to do with those candies, which is a shame. This is a light sour German beer brewed with half a ton of Swan Valley watermelons.

One of the best fruits, maybe ever. The beer spends 12 weeks in Chardonnay barrels. The result is fresh, spritzy, and overall refreshing.

Moon Dog – Ogden Nash’s Pash Rash

Okay, this one actually is a lolly based beer. Isn’t that delightful? It possesses the raspberry lolly aroma of Redskins while also giving you what you’d expect from a dark, tan-headed beer. Apparently, 5,80 lollies were unwrapped to make it.

The intense sweetness doesn’t carry over to the taste, with the redskins having fermented. The prevailing flavours are dark chocolate, roasted barley, and drying cocoa.

Kaiju Beer – Krush Tropical Pale Ale

This pale ale has juicy, fruity, and summery vibes.  It’s described as having a super-clean malt profile. Something to make beer a little more interesting without the potential excesses of some of the other options on this list.

La Sirene Brewing – Wild Tripelle

I saved arguably the most unique one for last. It’s rooted in a sense of place like few other beers are. La Sirene Brewing incorporates the indigenous bugs and bacteria surrounding it’s home on the edge of Darebin Parklands into their brewing process.

So now you have the opportunity to taste the Darebin Parklands. There are hints of vanilla, apricot, and a citrusy element.
