10 Underrated Self-Care Things To Do
Self-care is so much more than sheet masks and lighting a candle – as lovely as those things are, simple things like making the bed and having breakfast can make the biggest difference. Check out this helpful guide of 10 underrated self-care things to do, and you’ll be content in no time!
1. Have A Shower
Have a really hot (or really cold) long shower. Take a cold shower to wake you up or a hot shower if you want to relax. Let yourself unwind. Sit on the floor and cry if you want to. Take your time and try to rid yourself of any negative thoughts and feelings. By the time you get out of the shower, you will feel much better, refreshed and motivated to continue.
2. Write Your Goals Down
Write down a list of goals to achieve for the week, or month. Keep it simple and achievable. As simple as ‘clean the bedroom’ or as large as ‘run for 30 minutes non stop’. Remember to tick them off when they’re done. You’ll feel accomplished, proud and that will boost your self-worth!
3. Tidy Your Room
Strip your bed of the sheets. Empty your underwear drawer into the washing machine. Generously put in a large scoop of your favourite scented fabric softener and wash. Make your bed. Organise and re-arrange your room. Clean everything from your mirror, to your laptop, to the floor.
4. Go Outside
Push yourself to go for a walk or (if you have the energy) for a jog. Breathe in the fresh air and get some vitamin D. Take your headphones and listen to your favourite songs. Smile at strangers and watch them smile back at you. You’ll feel better in no time!
5. Message Old Friends
Message high-school or friends you haven’t seen in a while with personal and inside jokes. Self-care not only involves you but can involve as many people as you’d like – a phone call will not only make you feel good but your friend will also appreciate the thought. Reminisce on times spent together and suggest to catch up soon for a coffee.
6. Eat Well
It’s all too easy to neglect our diets and consume foods we know are not the best for our wellbeing. Eat a piece of fruit or a handful of nuts. Try to consume more vitamins and protein. Don’t neglect your health.
7. Spend Some Time With Your Pet(s)
Pet them, feed them, take them for a quick walk, or clean out their litter-box. Caring and spending time with a pet can make you feel useful, responsible and give you something to do.
8. Do Something Creative
Reading, writing, and art all provide relief through the sense of escapism. Doing something creative is definitely an underrated self-care thing to do.
9. Dress Up
Try to look nice and you’ll instantly feel better. Take your time going through your skincare routine and if you’re in the mood, apply a little makeup. Even if you have nowhere to go, take your time getting dressed and adorn yourself with accessories. This is another underrated self-care thing to do.
10. Unfollow And Unsubscribe
Try to delete conversations and unfollow people you no longer talk to or make you feel small. Unsubscribe from emails you no longer wish to receive. Try not to let yourself dwell on things, specifically things that are out of your control. Of all of the underrated self-care things to do in this list, this is one of the easiest and most effective!
