If you’re considering a holiday this summer in the UK, whether it be a family, romantic or solo adventure, then there are many fun-filled destinations to choose from. Having a holiday doesn’t necessarily mean that it has to be abroad when there is plenty still to see or do that is closer to home. There are plenty of things to see or do across the UK that you may not have heard about already, which is why we have chosen 8 UK summer getaways that are affordable and fun!

1. The Lake District

Saturated with beautiful scenery and stunning landscapes is one of Britains most talked about national parks, surrounded by reservoirs, lakes, valleys and hills, this is a much-loved destination all year round for a holiday to be remembered. If you enjoy exploring, boats and learning about local history, the Lake District has it all for any type of adventure whether it be solo, a romantic escape or a family getaway. Lake Windermere sits right in the centre where you can hire out a speedboat or go sailing with the most beautiful scenery to admire. There are plenty of local places to dine and stop off for a bite to eat or afternoon tea. With local train stations with services to many central national train stations, national bus services and plenty of car parks situated around the lakes, accessibility is easy putting your mind at ease for travelling in and out of the Lake District. From hostels to cottages, caravans, campsites and local hotels, the Lake District has plenty of places to stay all year round to make that next holiday unforgettable, at an affordable price too! If you’re searching for a family getaway full of exciting things to do, especially for the kids, then Butlins may be right for you! Butlins is one of Britains most notorious summer getaways and they only have three across the country. The three seaside resorts are located in Skegness, Minehead and Bognor Regis. With sandy beaches and beautiful lakes extending into Norfolk and Suffolk, you can admire the scenery by hiring out a riverside cottage. There are many leisurely activities you can take part in too such as birdwatching, fishing and walks around the national park. With plenty of woodland and streams that flow throughout, there’s plenty of adventure involved if you love hiking and keeping active and have a need to explore. Just down the road sits miles of coastline and sandy beaches home to Bamburgh Castle and the infamous Seahouses. Boat trips are available to go seal and puffin spotting as well as admiring the local history of Bamburgh castle which sits at the edge of a beautiful cliff and sandy beach. A few miles down the road, if you’re wanting to branch out a little more, sits Alnwick Castle, which is where the first Harry Potter film was filmed! There’s so much to see here and would make a great getaway this summer!

8. Edinburgh Zoo and City Sightseeing

Edinburgh has become a tourist hotspot in the UK, being one of the country’s most popular northern cities to escape to. The city may look small, but there are plenty of adventures to be unlocked and new things to be learned. Packed with history and surrounded by beautiful valley’s and lakes, the Scottish city is home to the best of both worlds being rural and having a historical cityscape. There are plenty of places to dine and shop, with the city’s famous Ferris wheel that sits right in the centre boasting plenty of views for photographs. Edinburgh castle is bejewelled with history and is one of the most stunning landmarks in the city. There is so much to do here and is a great place to getaway this summer if you’re up for an adventure.
