10 UK Music Festivals You Need To Go This Year

For all music lovers wanting to discover the music festival scene in new foreign countries, the United Kingdom is worth looking at. UK music festivals offer the best of the best from the world’s music catalog. From EDM, hip-hop to jazz, UK does know how to organise a festival celebrating life and music’s jewels. This year, it is not different. This list puts together the best UK music festivals you should go to this year.

1. The Great Escape

Since 2006, every year the beach side of England known as Brighton and Hove hosts a three-day music festival of new music – The Great Escape. It presents new talent of various genres to the world counting to over 300 acts in 30 different venues located in Brighton and Hove. 

This year Spotlight Show will host Lewis Capaldi, a Scottish singer/songwriter with hits like ‘Bruises,’ ‘Grace’ and ‘Someone You Loved.’ 

The Great Escape also puts together a music industry convention with insights and case studies on topics like music marketing and how to get paid as well as played. 

The whole vibe of the Great Escape may be perceived as Europe’s answer to Texas’ South By Southwest.

2. Lovebox

Back in 2002, the Groove Armada team were lamenting about wanting to put on a different kind of a party in London. It all began with a box of records and heart-shaped post-its in a pub, hence the name ‘Lovebox.’ 

A few years later, Lovebox is one of London’s hottest music festivals landing names like SZA, Childish Gambino, Wu-Tang, Bonobo, and others. This year, you can catch Chance The Rapper, Solange, Brockhampton, Kaytranada and UK Exclusives Cypress Hill and H.E.R.

3. Love Supreme

Branching out into more of a focused music festival, Love Supreme is a three-day greenfield jazz festival. Each year, the first weekend of July, Glynde Place in the South of East Sussex. 

This year, Love Supreme topped their line up of Gladys Knight, Jamie Cullum, Chick Corea, Snarky Puppy with THE name and that is Ms. Lauryn Hill.

4. All Points East

All Points East is a 10-day event of two weekends with some of the biggest names in music and four days of weekday activities referred to as the Neighbourhood. 

East London’s biggest event of the year takes over London’s Victoria Park with six headline shows and four days of free activities during the week. 

First weekend headliners are The Chemical Brothers, The Strokes, Christine and The Queens, and James Blake. The second weekend, All Points East will bring out Bring Me The Horizon, Mumford & Sons, and Bon Iver as headliners.

5. Creamfields

In England, the last August weekend is a Bank Holiday weekend also known as the last hoorah before the summer’s over. Creamfields festival owns this weekend as a major dance music festival founded and organised by British club promoter Cream. 

Taking place in Daresbury, England, Creamfields manages to triumph all dance music festivals. This year, it will be Calvin Harris, Tiesto, Deadmau5, and Martin Garrix closing up the summer festivities.

6. Isle of Wight

The history of the Isle of Wight Festival goes as far as the legendary Woodstock Festival. It began with a series of festivals between 1968 and 1970. To make sense of the location geographically, the Isle of Wight is a tiny island off the south coast of England. 

Every June, it welcomes some of the biggest names in rock music. This year will greet Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds, Lilly Allen, George Ezra, Jess Glynne, Sigrid, Tom Walker and more. 

When: 13-16 June

7. TRNSMT

Representing Scotland in this list is the TRNSMT Festival. Scottish audiences are renowned for being the crowds, and that is what TRNSMT is celebrating. 

Held in Glasgow Green, this year TRNSMT comes with a variety of artists like Stormzy, Years and Years, Snow Patrol, Catfish and the Bottlemen, Bastille, The Kooks, Tom German and more.

8. Reading and Leeds

Another Bank Holiday Festival is the Reading and Leeds music festival taking place simultaneously both in Reading and Leeds. Both sites share the same line-up. 

It is known to be one of the best events in the UK. What started as a rock festival, Reading and Leeds has taken up more pop and rap acts. This year the headliners are The 1975, Post Malone, Twenty One Pilots, Foo Fighters, You Me At Six, Juice WRLD, MURA MASA, YUNGBLUD and more. 

When: 23-25 August

Where: Leeds and Reading, England

9. Wireless

The Wireless Festival is a music festival celebrating the hear and soul of rap, both British and American. Every year Wireless pulls of a party that is full of surprises and legendary shows. For example, in 2018, Drake showed up out of nowhere and performed a show alongside Giggs. 

This year the line-up is bigger than ever. The three-day event has booked names like Cardi B, Migos, Ella Mai, Travis Scott, Future, A$AP Rocky, Rae Sremmurd and more. 

When: 5-7 July

Where: Finsbury Park, London, England

10. Glastonbury

Leaving the biggest and best for last, Glastonbury Festival is the festival. One of the most breathtaking performances has been from Glastonbury. It all began the day after Jimi Hendrix died in 1970. 

The line-up for this year is yet to be announced but in the past Glastonbury performers were Radiohead, FooFighters, Adele, Stevie Wonder, David Bowie, Coldplay, Beyonce, The Rolling Stones, Oasis.

Where: Worthy Farm, Somerset, England
