12 Types Of People You’ll Run Into When In Liverpool

Liverpool, named capital of culture in 2008 is a bustling City full of character and diversity. What makes the city so exciting is the people you meet. Here are the 12 types of people that you will be guaranteed to run into when visiting Liverpool.

1. The scouse bird

Usually wearing false tan, if not they will be partial to using a sunbed at least twice a week. A scouse bird will possess the famous “scouse brow”. Brows are usually drawn on with pencil, some girls use semi-permanent make up or micro blading to perfect the look.  On weekends you will most likely spot a scouse bird in the city centre. It is not uncommon to see a girl wearing pin curls in her hair in preparation for the evening ahead, a curly blow is essential! The most recent trend in Liverpool is Lip fillers, you will notice a lot of girls with a plump pout. A scouse bird always looks her best.

2. The scouse lad

Often wearing a tracksuit, usually the North face brand or Under Armour.  The scouse lad will be very loud and confident. He is friendly but some may find him intimidating due to his alpha male persona. He will most likely have a full head of hair, curled to perfection. A trend that has become seemingly popular over the past year in Liverpool.

3. The wool

A wool will claim they live in Liverpool, but they actually reside in areas nearby such as Birkenhead. The phrase “wool’ is a joke that only people from Liverpool will understand. Wools have slightly different dress sense to the scouse lad, often wearing super dry clothing or unbranded t-shirts.

4. The hipster

The hipster is slightly eccentric, wanting to be noticed wherever they go. The men will usually have a very long tamed beard and women may have piercings or tattoos. The Hipster always looks edgy and can usually be found hanging out at Liverpool’s Baltic Triangle. The place is packed with peculiar bars, perfect for those quirky Instagram shots.

5. The tourist

Liverpool is packed with attractions, people come from all over the world to check out what the city has to offer. You will often find the tourist hanging around Liverpool’s Albert Dock. It is full of interesting Museums and most tourists enjoy taking a stroll beside the famous River Mersey. The tourist will always have a camera, so be prepared they may ask you to take their picture.

6. The Irish stag

Just a one hour flight away from Ireland and being known for its vibrant nightlife Liverpool is perfect for a stag weekend. You will almost certainly find a group of drunk Irish men celebrating a groomsman’s last days of freedom. Liverpool even offers a range of Irish Bars, Mccooleys, O’Neil’s and Nelly Foleys to name a few. A perfect location for the Irish stag!

7. The student

You will often find the student slugging a bag full of books up Brownlow Hill. This is the road which leads towards University of Liverpool and Liverpool John moors. When there not rushing to lectures you will often find them using a discount card at one of the nearby student bars. There are plenty near the Bombed out Church such as The Flute, Hope and Anchor and The forever favourable Pilgrim pub. The pub often hosts Open Mic nights that are very popular with students.

8. The performer

You can’t take a walk through Liverpool’s city centre without noticing a performer. They are often found on Lord Street. You will find something new every day from singers and dancers to beatboxers. Sometimes you will even see stuntmen and quite often human statues. There are also men who like to carve sculptures out of sand, this get less impressive each time you see it.  Liverpool city has just recently had pianos placed around the city. These are open to the public, so if you know how to play you can even perform yourself!

9. The preacher

In the centre of the city you will always find someone preaching, weather that’s about animal’s rights or Jesus, you’re going to hear it. They will be holding large signs and usually talking over a microphone. If you are interested you could stop to listen.  You will also find preachers of certain charities, these people will stop you in the street and ask you to donate to the cause.

10. The homeless

Unfortunately Liverpool has a lot of homeless on the streets, especially in the city centre. You will notice homeless people sheltering in doorways or alleyways, they will not bother you. If you do spot them please be kind enough to offer small change or food and drink. They will greatly appreciate your efforts.

11. The football fanatic

You will always spot somebody wearing a football T-shit In Liverpool.  Of course Liverpool Football club is an obvious team, but another popular football team is Everton. On match days the city will be packed with fans. On winter days you’ll spot the football fanatic in his favourite football top, matching hat and scarf. A true diehard fan, if not heading to the match, he’s heading the pub to grab a pint.

12. The Foodie

You will be spoilt for choice when it comes to dining in Liverpool. There is always that one person who knows all of the best spots to eat. The foodie is your best friend and your worst enemy if you’re being careful of you weight. The foodie may take you towards Bold Street, packed with restaurants and offering a variety of different cuisines. There’s also The Albert Dock and of course the famous Liverpool One.
