Tips You Need To Know On How To Stop Oily Skin

Oily skin is the worst and a horrible thing to suffer from. It gives the appearance of greasy and sweaty skin, even though you’re actually far from the two. The demand for effective treatment is high but away from medications and creams, there are many tricks and tips you can do to combat the grease. So without further ado here are tips you need to know on how to stop oily skin.

Wash Your Face Regularly

It sounds so obvious but something we often forget to do and should be done twice a day, preferably morning and night. Throughout the day and night, excess oils, dirt, and impurities can build up on the surface of your skin which causes breakouts and oily skin. Daily facial washing removes these impurities to give the skin a fresh look.

Use A Toner

Facial toner is lotion or wash designed to cleanse the skin and shrink the appearance of pores. It usually has the consistency of water but is packed with so many more things that are good for your skin. Astringent toners that contain alcohol tend to dry out the skin and therefore stop oily skin.

A toner should be used after washing with warm water. Splash your face with cold water and then wet two cotton pads with toner and use on your face, neck, plus wherever is most oily for you. At night it works to complete the cleansing of the skin and get rid of everything that has built up over the day, and in the morning removes sebum produced during the night and to balance your skin’s pH.

Some may find that their face tingles or itches when using astringent (alcohol) toners. If this happens, it may be a sign of irritation that could lead to more sebum production. Not what we want! It is important to test out your toner on a small patch of skin first and find one that works best for you.

Do A Face Mask

Many natural ingredients, some that can be found in our own kitchen cupboards, can be great for combatting oily skin and a fab way to use these is in a face mask. To help us all out Huda Beauty has created a list of the best DIY face masks for oily skin. See here. The one I’ve found works the best is the clay, charcoal, green tea, and lemon mask. Clay contains zeolite, which helps remove toxins and dirt from your pores, and as the mask dries you can literally see the oil being pulled out from your skin. Very satisfying!

How To Make The Mask

Ingredients:

See Also
  • 2 tbsp bentonite clay
  • 1 tbsp activated charcoal powder (optional)
  • 1tsp green tea
  • 1tsp lemon juice

Brew a bag of green tea and leave it to cool, then add the lemon juice. Combine the bentonite clay and activated charcoal powder and slowly stir in the green tea and lemon juice mixture. If the consistency is too thick to apply then it’s fine to add more green tea. Make sure you use a wooden spoon, as metal can affect the potency of the clay and charcoal. Sounds weird but must be done. Apply the mask all over your face with clean hands. Let it dry then remove it after 15 minutes with warm water.

Wash Your Bed Sheets

In a surprisingly short amount of time, your bed sheets become covered with dead skin cells, oils from the skin, saliva, and sweat. Everything bad on your duvet and pillows constantly touches your skin and face throughout your sleep and adds to your oily skin problem. Wash your sheets regularly to avoid this.

Oily skin might be awful but over time it is possible to get rid of it. All it takes is perseverance and to follow the steps above.

Do you suffer from oily skin? What do you do to tackle it?
