5 Tips To Write Unique And Beautiful Weddings Vows

mm

We grow up knowing that wedding vows are a thing that exists but rarely do we think about the day we might actually need to write some. As an un-engaged-twenty-something, I won’t lie, it’s not something I’m planning on doing anytime soon but I was intrigued. After doing some researching and mind mapping, here are five of the best tips I found to write unique and beautiful wedding vows.

1) Avoid Clichés

Don’t write down the very first things that come to mind. Wedding vows that are full of clichés are anything but original and that definitely isn’t the vibe you want to be going for at your wedding. In, stead think of things to say that are meaningful and specific to you pair as a couple. Every couple on the planet have been through and experience all kinds of things, thinking outside the box is what will make your vows the most unique.

2) Find Alternative Inspiration

However, this doesn’t mean that you can’t find inspiration from other people’s wedding vows or works of art. To get inspired and in the mood to write perhaps one of the most important things you ever will, do some research. Read some poetry, read love stores, listen to your favourite long songs and highlight your favourite passages. Depending on how artistic you are too, think of different ways to deliver it. If you can sing, why not to a Tom Fletcher? The lead singer of McFly delivered a wedding speech to his now wife, Giovanna Fletcher, in song form. It was pretty extraordinary.

3) Add A Sprinkling of Humour

If you aren’t the lovey-dovey type or you simply want to keep the mood joyful and light-hearted, adding a little bit of humour into your wedding vows will do just the trick. Think about what would make your partner laugh as well as any family members or friends sitting in the audience. Whilst traditional poetry is a great starting point for gaining inspiration, adding a few jokes in here and there will allow you to show off your personality even in the most serious of times. Why make your audience cry with tears of joy when you could have them in stitches of laughter?

4) Get Inspired By Your Location

Think about where you’ll be standing. When you’re relaying your wedding vows, you’re going to be stood hand in hand somewhere special. Somewhere that you have spent a lot of time and effort choosing and perfecting your dream venue. Whether you’re going to be abroad, standing on the beach with the sun setting behind you or in the rural English countryside at an exquisitely decorated manor, you picked that place for a reason. Comment on where you are and why, it’s possible there’s a whole story behind it.

5) Practice, Practice, Practice

Now, in my opinion, remembering speeches and learning it off by heart is a lot better than reading off a piece of paper no matter what you’re doing. And weddings are no excuses. Just like learning the lyrics to your favourite songs, look at your wedding vows after you’ve written them and read them over and over. You could even practice to yourself when no one is around until it just comes naturally to you. By doing this, you might be wondering whether or not it would come across too scripted. However, the more confidence you have when saying your wedding vows the easier it will be to add in or take anything out last minute depending on the mood right there in that moment!
