10 Tips To Keep Your Skin Glowing While Travelling

Your skin can suffer when you travel. Read these easy tips to keep your skin glowing so you can be your best self on holiday!

Travel is good for the soul but not for the skin. While you enjoy your trip abroad your skin has to contend with the elements from stress, to a lack of nutrition, differing climates and pollution to name a few. Here are some easy ways to keep your skin glowing while travelling so you can be your best radiant self on the road.

1. Pre-travel treatment

Give your skin a pre-trip spa treatment. Prepare a quick mask of yoghurt and cucumber and leave it on your face for ten minutes while it hydrates your skin then gently wash it off with warm water. It’s a simple beauty treatment but you will have glowing skin in time for your travels.

2. Get enough sleep

Beauty sleep is not a myth. The best way to keep your skin glowing while you travel is to get at least eight hours a night. While you sleep your body produces collagen and increases blood flow to the skin which fights ageing and gives you a radiant complexion. A lack of sleep can make your skin dull and ashen with dark circles around the eyes.

3. Wear sunscreen

Sunscreen is the most important way to keep your skin healthy on the road. Healthy skin glows so make it part of your daily routine. Buy a sunscreen that suits your skin type and apply it liberally every two hours. Luckily, you don’t have to worry about grease and breakouts now that there are hundreds of good quality sunscreens to choose from!

4. Leave off the makeup

If you’re spending hours on transport or long haul flights, avoid makeup. Your skin absorbs anything on it so makeup can clog the pores and leech vital hydration. It’s a recipe for breakouts, especially when you’ve got pollution and the stress of being in transit adding to the mix.

5. Moisturise

Keep your skin glowing by moisturising. Flying and hot weather dries out your skin so pack your favourite moisturiser and use it at least twice a day. if you’re flying, consider moisturising every few hours so your skin stays soft, hydrated and fresh even if you’re not!

6. Cleanse

Your skin picks up dirt and pollution when you’re travelling. It can also be exposed to the elements including smoke and bacteria so it’s important to cleanse to keep your skin glowing. Pack a good quality cleanser and rub it in every evening to clear the dirt and dead skin from your pores.

7. Wash in warm water

as tempting as it is to blast on the hot tap (guilty!) it’s terrible for your skin and the water could be harsher than you’re used to. Instead, wash your face in warm water. Take care not to scrub it as it can get aggravated. Use a soft flannel to gently dab it dry to avoid irritation.

8. Stay hydrated

All the fanciest products in the world won’t do anything if your skin is dehydrated. Glowing skin radiates from within so drink at least eight glasses of water a day. It can be hard to stay on top of it when you’re on the move so invest in a water bottle you can fill up on the go. Staying hydrated will flush out any toxins and keep your skin glowing as you travel.

9. Eat well

Your skin is  tells a story about what you put into your body. If you indulge in greasy food then you might end up with breakouts. If you eat food rich in healthy fats and oils like avocados and salmon, your skin looks nourished and young. It’s hard to eat well while travelling. But five portions of fruit and vegetables a day keeps your skin healthy because the antioxidants in the food protect it from cellular damage.

10. Keep it simple!

The secret to glowing skin is not smearing half the bathroom cabinet on your face. The best thing you can do it keep your skincare simple with some well chosen products. Stick with some old favourites rather than changing it up too often as it can damage your skin. If you eat well, sleep, hydrate, protect and keep it clean, your skin already has everything it needs to be radiant on your travels. Cleansers, moisturisers and sunscreen are your best friends. Leave everything else at home.
