5 Tips To Instantly Improve Your Style
If you want to improve your style, it may be easier than you think. No one pops out of the womb with an innate sense of style. For a lot of us, discovering the types of outfits we liked and knowing what suited our bodies came after the awkward experimental phase, known as our teenage years. Of course, the story is a little different now as thanks to social media, particularly Instagram, we have so many new outfit ideas and fashion tips that we may have never considered. Everyone still has something that they can learn in the style department, so here are five tips that may seem simple, but will improve your style by leaps and bounds.
1. Tuck it in
Tucking in your top or doing it partially with a half-tuck is fashionable and allows you to show off your belt and the top of your pants. If your clothes are contrasting colours it also pulls the eyes up to your waist and can make your stomach look a lot smaller. You’ll look put together and sophisticated without it coming across as too prim and proper.
2. A little jewellery goes a long way
Wearing jewellery is one of the easiest ways to improve your style – it’s like the icing on the cake and the cherry on top of an ice cream sundae. Popping on a little bling can transform your day look from something that’s a little dressed down to an outfit that’s more dressy and put together. A simple pair of earrings or a necklace can also act as a big confidence booster as you can definitely feel more polished and feminine. There’s also something really satisfying about picking out your jewellery for the day and it’s a nice little moment where you feel like you’re treating yourself in the mornings.
3. Accessorise!
Improve your style by accessorising! If you stick to a few key items of clothing and tend to wear similar outfits every day, then definitely buy accessories. Switching up your bags, adding a different belt, and putting on jewellery and some hair accessories really go a long way. By adding new colours and shapes it adds some diversity to your everyday clothing and it can make each outfit feel new and creative.
4. Make sure it fits
An easy way to improve your style is to make sure you’re wearing great-fitting clothes. There may be a few pieces at the back of your wardrobe that you know no longer fit you, but you’re holding onto them because they’re pretty and you’re hoping you can find an occasion to wear them again. It’s not uncommon for people to hold onto or buy items of clothing that aren’t their size, but really it’s best to wear clothes that fit your body type.
Start buying clothes that fit your body, and this doesn’t mean looking at the sizing labels retailers offer, because a lot of the time these measurements vary and lack accuracy. So when you get clothes pay attention to the fit, not the number. Getting clothes that fit eliminates a lot of the lumps, bumps and muffin tops that ill-fitting clothes create.
5. Show skin strategically
Improve your style by changing the way you show skin. Showing off a little skin can be fun and sexy but it’s very easy to get carried away. Of course, you have to take into consideration the event and venue, but a classic tip is to find the balance between how much skin you should really show. Looking sexy isn’t about going out in the tiniest piece of fabric you own, it’s about knowing what to bare and what you should keep under wraps – a little peep of skin goes a long way. The best advice is to only show off one body part. For example, if you want to let the girls out tonight and show a little cleavage, then choose a longer skirt or bottoms that’ll cover your legs. And if you want to let the legs free then make it a little more conservative on top.
