10 Tips To Declutter Your Wardrobe And Tidy Your Room

Do you have a wardrobe full of clothes shoes and bags but never know what to wear and can never find anything? I know the feeling. Here are 10 tips to declutter your wardrobe effectively and tidy up your room along the way.

1. Make an inventory or a list

Writing down, making a list and taking pictures of what you already have helps in getting rid of what you no longer what, what you want to keep and what you’d like to sell, donate or throw away.

2. Classify everything by seasons

make a pile for each seasons so you can see what takes the most space and then make a selection. The unwanted pile can then be distributed as you want and it will be less overwhelming for you. It’s a great way to declutter your wardrobe.

3. You change, So Does your Wardrobe

Change is normal, and kind of impossible to avoid, that’s why as you grow older and your taste in clothing changes, your wardrobe should be able to follow. Throw away those 3 year old Mickey mouse pyjamas you once fit in or those socks with holes you wore way too much. Most clothes don’t last that long so they better end up in the bin before they become dusty & mouldy in your wardrobe. Change is not only good, it’s necessary.

4. For every new item IN, 1 item OUT

Make rules. If you want to get new stuff, make sure you sell at least an item per week. There is no way you will let more clothes pile up in that wardrobe, it’s easy to buy but hard to get rid of things but there are limits. If your wardrobe isn’t closing properly, that’s already a bad sign.

5. If you have too many things, make BUNDLES

Bundles are a godly creation if you want things to go quickly, and if you’re already an experienced seller you will know how to make things sell fast- Selling one item at a time is no fun, thats why you should try and pair together pieces that are similar and you think would go well together. You will be surprised how many people are actually interested in your stock and want to buy your unwanted items.

6. Don’t be materialistic

This might be more easily said than done but we live in a materialistic society, that cares more about buying stuff than sharing moments. Everything seems to be mental, and once you realise that experiences are more important than consuming things, you will be able to declutter your home & wardrobe and will feel much better as a result. It’s time to declutter your wardrobe.

7. Give away, makes someone’s day

The littlest things can make the biggest impact. Give away anything you won’t use or eat, don’t let it go in the bin. A lot of people are homeless and are in need of help all over the world. You can give your unwanted items to charity or even fill a bag with foods you don’t want and give to homeless people in your town. It’s better to make someone’s day than wasting it. The smallest steps go the furthest.

8. Make Smart Decisions

There might be things that will have sentimental values and you don’t want or can’t get rid of. That’s fine. But if you own things of value that you think you won’t make use of and could really benefit yourself financially, then you should maybe think about it and make a choice. If you’re a frequent traveller (and buyer) you will understand the pain.

9. One person’s trash is another person’s treasure

Remember that the piles of things you don’t want will always benefit someone else, and yourself of course. A spacious wardrobe means a clean and tidy mind. If you can’t find your socks or underwear when getting dressed, it’s probably time to declutter your wardrobe and possibly your home.

10. Think about the end results

After you’re done decluttering your wardrobe and space, you will instantly feel better and be more productive. You will no longer lose things and have everything at reach. For a better quality of life you must start somewhere, and cleaning out your space is already a great start.
