5 Tips To Be More Positive

We all want to be more positive and have a more positive outlook on life, but many of us don’t know where to start and what to do. However, there’s no need to fret. With these five simple tips, you’ll be feeling more positive in no time at all!

1. Practice Gratitude

One of the quickest and simplest ways to practice gratitude and to become more positive is by starting a gratitude journal. List the things in your life for which you are grateful or thankful for. List anything from the smallest things to the biggest. Some things you could write in your gratitude journal include things like the waiter who greeted you with a smile, the people in your life that care for you or the roof above your head. Anything that you feel grateful for.

Practicing gratefulness will leave you feeling instantly more positive and it will change your perspective. Try to adopt healthy thinking as much as you can in order to become more positive. Another way to practice gratitude is by having a friend or family member that can support you in your journey to positive thinking. Each day, text or tell each other at least three things for which you are grateful.

2. Replace Negative Thoughts With Positive Thoughts

Becoming more positive takes time, and stopping the negative flow of thoughts will initially be hard. This shift can take a lot of time therefore, it’s important to remember to be patient with yourself, and to just start off by observing and paying more attention to your thought process. Whenever you catch yourself judging someone, focusing on your failures, complaining about your workload or criticizing yourself, take a moment to counter each negative thought with a positive one. Do this, and you will be more positive sooner than you think!

3. Don’t Forget To Smile

Using your body, trick your mind into being more positive by smiling. Smiling, even if you don’t necessarily have anything to smile about, instantly changes the way you feel on the inside. Whether you are sitting at your desk completing assignments, driving in your car, or walking down the street, smile! You will be amazed by how your mind reacts. Or if it feels a little awkward, try smiling at a co-worker or stranger you pass in the hallway or on the street. Did they smile back? I bet they did – you’ll make others feel great too!

4. Surround Yourself With Positive People

Try to surround yourself with positive people. It can be hard to maintain a positive perspective if you are constantly pulled down by the negativity of friends and family. If you get trapped in a negative conversation, try to change the subject to something more positive. However, if you are surrounded by a bunch of negative people, it may be time to re-evaluate your circle of friends in an effort to be surrounded by uplifting people.

5. Do Something Kind

It can be all too easy to get absorbed by your own world, your own worries and to forget about the people around us. Try to step outside of your daily routine and do something kind for someone special in your life. Strive to do at least 1 nice thing for someone else each day. Call a family member or old friends in need of a kind word, compliment a stranger, go out of your way to help a co-worker or peer complete a task.
