8 Things You Must See In Rome While Visiting

Travelling to Rome is a life-changing experience. You’ll encounter amazing people, great food and breathtaking monuments. If you only have a little bit of time to spare in Rome, then these are the eight sites that you should definitely see before you move on to your next destination!

1. Colosseum

This is an obvious one, but well worth it. The Colosseum hosted fights between the Gladiators and is a great historic site to see. Its crumbling facade really highlights its age and importance to the city. You can also buy tickets to venture inside the Colosseum, and see all of the architectural depths that aren’t visible from its exterior!

2. Trevi Fountain

This is a beautiful fountain created with amazing detail. The water beneath it is a near crystal blue, and you are encouraged to throw a euro behind your back and make a wish. Hundreds of tourists come to see the Trevi Fountain, so make sure that you don’t miss out! It is at the heart of a little square of shops, so you won’t have to worry about missing out on eating or shopping for souvenirs!

3. Pantheon

This is another great, historic landmark in Rome. Its exterior pillars are breathtaking and impressive. It now stands as a church for citizens to pray in. Though its age shows through its exterior, this building hosts beautiful works of art through its great doors. You will also get a glimpse of the sky through the opened dome in its ceiling.

4. Roman Forum

Rome is an ancient city. This means that there is a lot for tourists to see. This site possesses various ruins that once stood tall and new. I also encourage you to research Roman mythology to garner a greater understanding of the significance of praying to the gods in ancient times!

5. St. Peter’s Basilica

Although I wasn’t able to venture inside when I visited Rome (unfortunately, the Pope was sleeping), St. Peter’s Basilica is something that you just can’t miss seeing. It is incredibly impressive to witness its grand, white exterior and the intricacy that went into building its interior. It is truly a spectacular sight to behold!

6. Sistine Chapel

Would you really visit Rome without seeing the Sistine Chapel? Located in the Vatican City, Michelangelo’s impressive artwork continues to amaze tourists and locals alike in the modern days. I will let you in on a little secret, though. While you’re there, you will be asked not to take any photos of the ceiling. So, you might just want to take the time to observe it in wonder without your phone!

7. Palatine Hill

This is a great location to visit if you are walking nearby and are in the mood to see some more ancient ruins. If you are already visiting the Roman Forum, then you will most likely be granted admission to Palatine Hill. Again, this is a great place to view the old worshipping grounds of Rome.

8. Altar of the Fatherland

Finally, you must visit this Roman monument! Statues are planted all across the building to recognise the unnamed men who perished in combat. Such gruelling architecture really informs tourists about Italian history. You are also offered an interesting view of the city once inside, and after you have climbed a few steps! Visit this monument in the evening to get a glimpse of the calm and setting sun before you leave Rome for another beautiful European city!
