15 Things We Learnt From Bridget Jones
Even though the first Bridget Jones’s Diary film came out eighteen years ago and the book twenty-three years ago it is still as relatable as ever. The story of 32-year-old Bridget attempting to take control of her life, including everything from men to her weight and keeping track of it all in a diary was a life-changing film experience and inspired us all to turn a new page on life and taught us many many useful things.

1. Don’t judge a book by its cover

To start with Mark thinks Bridget is foolish and vulgar and Bridget thinks Mark is arrogant and rude but they couldn’t be more wrong (kind of). And they end up falling hopelessly in love. So romantic and just proves that you should never judge a book by its cover because there is always more than meets the eye.

2. Big knickers are the best

They’re super comfy. No pulling or pinching your behind throughout the day to adjust your teeny tiny basically invisible thong, which don’t lie, is not comfy by any means. But maybe avoid them when you’ve got a sexy date coming up.

3. Don’t go for the bad boy

Even when they look like Hugh Grant, or literally are Hugh Grant, they’ll still lie and break your heart. Avoid. Avoid. Avoid.

4. Always write a diary

Writing a diary is great for so many reasons. It can keep your creative juices flowing, help you remember important things, reflect back on memories and do great things for your mental health. But don’t leave it laying around wide open!

5. Nice boys can kiss

Iconic.

6. You’ll never not need your friends

Even when you’re in a relationship you will always need your friends. They are your go-to for emotional support and the best ones will never leave your side. And in the unfortunate event of a breakup, you’re going to need your friends more than ever.

7. Parents will always be embarrassing

Even when you’re 20, 30 or 40 they will forever be out to get you with their embarrassing and cringey ways. Don’t let them set you up either. Let’s just hope your mum doesn’t run off and start an affair with a perma-tanned shopping channel presenter called Julian.

8. Properly plan for a costume party

And maybe avoid the sexy bunny look… Just in case.

9. You’re never too old to follow your dreams

Whether that be a new job in television or having a baby. There will never be a perfect time to do something because things or situations are always changing and by following your dreams you will live a happier, fulfilled life.

His alluring and posh British accent. Every word sounds like a great piece of literature. Stunningly handsome, even as he ages. Mature and classy and so darn charming. We love you, Mark Darcy.

12. Wine and ice cream is forever the answer

A girl’s best friend. Wine and ice cream will be there for us in a way no man can ever be.

13. The numbers on the scales do not define you

We are more than a number on a scale, that number does not define who you are or who anyone is.

14. Don’t believe everything you hear

Rumors and gossip spread like wildfire but it’s important to remember that you’re probably only hearing one side of the story and there is so much more to the tale. Don’t jump to conclusions and always do research before believing anything.
