6 Things To Do To Calm Down Your Anxiety

Anxiety is a real and natural thing that happens to everyone but, more often than not, it’s easy for it to get out of control until it begins to hurt you. These 6 tips to calm down your anxiety will not only be helpful immediately but also in the long run.

1. Take Time Away

You can be there for your friends, family, or whatever responsibilities you’ve got on but, remember to sometimes make time away from it all. Don’t let yourself get consumed into that lifestyle where you’re juggling a billion and one things at once and you don’t even know what day of the week it is or who you are anymore. Live a life to live, not to work. You are the one with the power to choose what goes on in your life.

2. Write Down Your Thoughts

Sometimes when our thought seems overwhelming, it’s always hard to control your feelings in response. Especially when you’re ranting to your friends about your problems, they may even get more out of control and you will suddenly feel as though the issue is harder than it was before or perhaps there is no solution in general. Whatever the case, writing down your thought is a good way to discuss your issues to yourself in an organised way. This doesn’t have to be full-length diary entries but, simply whatever you’re comfortable with. It can be a short mood tracker that you tick off every day in a calendar form to keep track of how you felt that day. Perhaps you can find refuge in writing fictional stories or poems that’ll show just enough of your heart.

3. Practice Self Care

Self-care is extremely important to contribute to your mental health. Although it’s extremely kind of you to listen to your friend’s troubles and the experiences on the internet, taking it all in isn’t good for the long run. No matter what goes on, mentally, always put yourself first. Love yourself from deep within and once you do, perhaps a great chunk of your anxiety will go away. However, it is hard to do so, and the definition of what it means to love yourself is often a journey to discover that’ll sometimes feel like you’re taking 2 steps forward to make 3 steps back. Practice self-care in a way that gives you peace the most, you’re the one living your life.

4. Get Well, Sleep Well

Sometimes a great source of anxiety is living in poor habit. You might find out that proper eating and sleeping habits might be a big contributor to improving your mental health. Regulating yourself that way makes you feel in control of your life and everything that’s going on with it. Perhaps in fixing this small aspect of your life, you can significantly improve the state of things.

5. Read

You don’t have to read hard things. You don’t need to start reading Shakespeare. Read what you want to read, or more like, read what you can read. That can be poetry, fictional, or non-fiction! If you can, we’d best recommend you to try self-help books. Don’t let the name falter you, they’re helpful for a reason. Reading can open your mind up to a whole new world of opinions. What you’re feeling and what you’ve felt has most likely also been experienced by another who may offer you some advice. Reading is a good way to escape but also improve yourself in your own way!

6. Find More Sources of Joy

If the source of anxiety comes from what you once loved or are still loving, it’s time to find another source of joy. This doesn’t mean to replace it but rather, you shouldn’t be finding all your joy from one thing or person. When that happens, if the place that gives you the most joy is compromised, your mental health won’t be able to find itself as easily as it should. Find multiple things that you can dedicate your heart to. In doing so, you will be able to find all sorts of avenues that define you rather than relying on one source. Whether it’s hobbies like cooking or photography, find new ways to allow your heart to breathe.
