The small Channel Island of Guernsey is well-known for its sunny weather, so when the sun does come out, here are some of the best things to do in Guernsey on a sunny day!
Guernsey’s best feature is its large amount of beautiful beaches, so enjoy the sun with some relaxation, swimming and ice cream. Take a trip to Pembroke and L’Ancresse for some sandy shores and beautiful sea. Its also a great place for watersports including windsurfing, sailing and kayaking. Going to the beach is one of the most beautiful things to do in Guernsey.
Take advantage of the sun with a high adrenaline coastal adventure on an RIB Voyage. Venture inside caves, hear all kinds of mystical and historical stories about the Guernsey coast, and see all kinds of wildlife including puffins, seals and even dolphins if you’re lucky! It’s a great way to learn a lot whilst enjoying your day in the sun.
Take a walk along the cliff side to the secluded Fermain Bay. The walk starts in St Peter Port harbour and takes you through the beautiful bluebell wood and along the cliff with some wonderful sea views. When you arrive at Fermain take a walk along the beach or have a well-earned break and an ice cream at the seaside café.
Take advantage of the sun by taking a boat trip from Guernsey harbour to the nearby island of Herm. The small island has miles of coastline to explore and beaches to relax on, especially the beautiful Shell Beach. You can also visit some of the historical chapels and Neolithic sites, or even go kayaking!
Guernsey has many historical sites you can visit on a sunny day, especially from its occupation during WWII, including many of the German bunkers dotted around the island. One of the most famous historical sites is Castle Cornet, a large castle in St Peter Port harbour first built in the 11th century, and then used as a prison and occupied by German soldiers during WWII. Don’t miss the Noonday Gun being fired each day at midday.
This small and secluded beach is a hidden gem of Guernsey. Take a walk down the cliff steps to the wonderfully scenic shore with its bright blue waters. It’s a great place to go rockpooling and crabbing and take some beautiful pictures of the island. Painter Renoir also saw the beauty in the beach, painting it multiple times throughout his stay on the Island. Make sure to visit the tearoom café at the bottom for some relaxation and energy for the walk back up!
If you fancy a calmer day, take a trip to St Peter Port high street and have some retail therapy. Take a trip to the Old Quarter for some independent shops, or the Market Square for the Friday Market where islanders sell their local produce. Make sure to visit hidden gem Café Delices in the Market Square for some delicious crepes and omlettes. This is one of the best things to do in Guernsey!
Take a trip to the beautiful tidal island of Lihou. When its low tide you can walk the causeway from Guernsey to the island. Lihou has an abundance of wildlife, especially when it comes to the islands birds. Make sure to visit the Venus Pool, a natural rock pool you can take a dip in.
The beautiful Candie Gardens are the perfect place to take a stroll or curl up with a book on a sunny day. The Gardens bright flowers and perfectly kept lawns provide the perfect setting to relax, as well as a stunning view of St Peter Port harbour. Visit the statue of author Victor Hugo, who lived on the island during his exile from France in the mid 1800’s.
One of the newest attractions to arrive on the island, Le Petit Train is a sightseeing tour around St Peter Port, the capital of Guernsey. The route passes Castle Cornet, the Bathing Pools, the Town Square and Parliament and Court buildings. Learn some of the fascinating history of the island whilst enjoying the harbours beautiful sites. For only £6 a ticket it’s a must do.
