Egham is a quiet town built around Royal Holloway, it often seems like there’s nothing happening there, but there are definite gems tucked away you can explore in your next free weekend. If you’re a uni student at Royal Holloway and find yourself bored, here are 13 things to do in Egham during your free time that will bring you a new appreciation of Egham!
1. Walk to the Magna Carta
Take a walk to the historical site where the Magna Carta was signed for a nice refreshing walk in the greenery. Be one with nature for an afternoon while learning a little something about the history of human rights. This monument is nestled in a lush green park that is the ideal spot to talk a walk through, soak up some sunshine, and get some unpolluted fresh air. If you’re lucky, you might even see some horses and cows roaming about. This is one of the most relaxing things to do in Egham.
2. Have brunch at Bar 163
This gem of a restaurant located on the Egham’s High Street is the perfect spot to grab brunch on the weekend. With delicious food, and a quaint charming atmosphere, this is one of the best places to eat in Egham. With more food you can choose from on their special weekend brunch menu, any choice you make will definitely not be a disappointment!
3. Picnic on Englefield Green
If the weather is good, pack up a simple picnic basket (or just some sandwiches in a lunch box) and bring it to Englefield Green for a lovely picnic on the grass. This large round patch of grass sitting on Englefield Green, giving the area its name, is the perfect place for a calm sunny afternoon. Throw a ball around after lunch, or just lay there to soak up some vitamin D under the sun, Englefield Green is the place to be.

Just because Egham is a small town doesn’t mean it doesn’t have its share of pubs for you to grab a pint or a bite. Go pub hopping for a day if you love the atmosphere, or if you just like the drinks. There are a number of pubs to discover in the Egham area that make amazing food, and have great atmospheres to enjoy a pint.

6. Walk to the Royal Air Force Memorial
Another monument located in Egham is the Royal Air Force Memorial. This beautiful memorial is not only incredibly meaningful and important, it is also a beautiful work of architecture with an amazing view on the top floor. Make your way up to the roof slowly while taking your time to recognise the names of Royal Air force soldiers adorning the walls.
7. Pub Quiz Night
Round up a group of friends and head to a quiz night at the nearest pub. For a night of fun answering trivia questions while drinking with all your friends for a small money prize, this is a great way to spend a night during your weekend. If you’re already living in Egham and don’t feeling like leaving your house or hall, pull out your phone and ope Just Eat for some takeout. Although there are many options out there, one of the top choices is curry. Who doesn’t want to get a curry takeout in England? Get some curry, and lots of starters to share with all your friends or flatmates for a great night in. Enjoy this with a movie!

Pop into one of the many charity stores to go for a mini shopping trip. You never know what gems you can find in charity stores. The best thing about shopping at charity stores is that whatever you spend always goes to being a great cause. So why not drop by and see if you can pick out anything in your size for a good cause. 10. Sunday Roast at Barley
Sunday roasts are probably one of the most British things you could do, it is a rite of passage. Head to Barley Mow by Englefield Green for a great roast dinner. Invite all your friends, and bond over big steaming plates of roast meat, potatoes, brussel sprouts, parsnips, carrots, peas, potatoes, yorkshire puddings, and more. What better way to spend a weekend night with great food and great company?
11. Jog in Windsor Park
If you’re a runner, it is guaranteed that you will not find a better place to go for a morning run than Windsor Great Park. If you’re not a fan of cardio and sweating first thing in the morning, the park is still a beautiful place to take a walk. Go for a run, or a walk to see the ducks, see the forest, and see all the people walking their dogs in the park.

If you’re sleeping off a hangover, head to The Golden Café in Egham. This local grease spot has a huge menu that could satisfy any cravings, and curb any hangover. Deemed to be one of the most beautiful university campuses in the whole of UK, Founder’s building is definitely worth paying a visit to. This beautiful castle is so beautiful, so why not grab some pictures with it, or take the grass field and have a picnic just next to it.
