8 Things To Do At The Beach Other Then Just Laying Out

I adore the seaside, growing up my favourite place for a day out was always the beach. Whether that was South-End, Scarborough, Whitby or Cromer; I always wanted to be at the beach. It’s rare to be in England and have a day nice enough to go to the beach, but this heatwave we’re currently having, with temperatures reaching 30 degrees means it’s hot enough to act like you’re on holiday! So, if you fancy a day out or are just lucky enough to live near a beach, here is a list of the 8 best things to do at the beach, other than sunbathing!

Go Swimming

This amazing heatwave has even heated up the North Sea, so if you’re in Scarborough or Whitby then run straight in and swim! Of course, if you live further south, maybe a day out at South-End or in Brighton could be just what you need.

Go Snorkling

The English seas, unfortunately, can’t rival the Great Barrier Reef or the amazing Indian Ocean. However, it is still worth having a peak beneath the sea, we still have crabs and fish and other exciting marine life that you can have a look at whilst quietly floating on the sea.

Rock Pools

Many beaches in England have natural rock pools where spotting marine life is very easy and exciting for both children and adults. Even if you just see little sand snakes or baby crabs, they’re still amazing to watch in their natural habitat. Some beaches, like in Broadstairs (Kent), have man-made rock pools where you can dip your toes and gaze at the fish and other life.

Read A Book

Maybe laying out in the sun is for you, but it doesn’t have to just be that. Bring a book! Take some me time and have a nice read, enjoy the weather and your ability to be lying on a beach in the sun. Don’t waste it just on getting a tan, you can do that in your own garden! Have a read of a page-turner and let yourself get excited by literary characters. Just remember to keep yourself well sun-creamed.

Play A Ball Game

If full swimming isn’t for you, maybe start a game of volleyball or water tennis in the shallows. Having a splash about will cool you down, and exercise is never a bad thing. Just remember to keep hydrated, running around in the sun dehydrates you very fast!

Have A drink And Picnic

Perhaps you’re after a more relaxing beach day. Bring a nice soft blanket and a selection of food and drink and just enjoy the weather. This idea does work better on stone beaches though… I’m sure everyone has a memory of eating sandy chips – they aren’t good.

Go For A Walk

Beaches are usually places of extraordinary natural beauty. Whether they’re flanked by cliffs, or little seaside towns, there is almost always somewhere to walk to and enjoy the natural beauty surrounding you. Walking is one of the best things to do at the beach!

Can You Hire A Boat?

Maybe you want to do something more active, lots of beaches have hire services, where you can hire little pedalos or maybe even wind surfs or paddle boards. This idea would be a little bit more expensive but would be incredibly fun in hot weather like this. Generally, you can hire boats by the hour, or by the day. If you only did an hour or two you could easily spend time eating and drinking as well as having fun splashing around on a little boat.
