Are you a student at Birmingham University? This list compiles all the things that will happen to you at this uni and why you’ll love it so much.
The only thing sadder than not being able to swing a fab ticket off Facebook is queuing up in the rain at 11pm for an hour to get into the SU, only to be turned away because you were about five minutes too late. But for a lucky few they might just manage to bag a spot in Birmingham University’s notorious Fab N Fresh and survive the risks of danger fabbing.
We’ve all been fooled by the trickery that is £1 Mondays at Circo. One minute you’re on top of the world after ordering a double for £2.50, the next your blacked out on the floor of Roosters with £40 missing from your bank account. It’s dangerous.
For me it was silverfish, coming home to a floor filled with funny looking worm things was never a great experience. Some have had cuter infestations like ladybirds, but for the most unlucky it could even be rats.
Before uni, I would have never been seen sipping on a blue VK. But ever since coming to Birmingham Uni, they have honestly become a staple part of my diet. A night out without a VK to sip on just isn’t a proper night out.
Whether it’s a stolen coat from Circo, a lost pair of keys or wallet, or both. Fab has your back! However, posting on it about how you drunkenly lost all your stuff on a night out is never the most dignifying thing to do.
Or any takeaway for that matter. For me, it was Pit Stop because who can resist chicken, chips and a full-sized pizza? Needless to say, neither my bank account or my hangover was thanking me the next day.
It’s that club you go to the first couple months of the first year, then occasionally visit again when you really want something to do on a Tuesday. But let’s face it, the pitch black small room with a plethora of safety hazards and terrible music being blasted at you all night is not the best clubbing experience.
But who can really blame you when you have a 9 am seminar the day after a sports night?
Desperate times really do call for desperate measures. Your average £5 Fab ticket can cost over £25 when it’s last minute on a Saturday. Fully worth it though of course…
You meet all kinds of interesting people in Birmingham. The best normally being that guy with no teeth who came up to you and your mates in the pub for a ten-minute chat.
When it’s exam season finding a seat in the library turns into a full-on Mission Impossible. And we’ve all been there when you have to awkwardly walk up and down the aisles trying to find a space while making an obscene amount of awkward eye contact with those strong enough to get up at 6am to get a seat.
Basically, any degree that isn’t medicine or law, you’re going to feel a bit lost. Enough said.
One thing I truly miss about my first year at Birmingham University is the banging deals on cocktails every Saturday night at the Duck & Scholar. Nothing beats going down to the pub for a quick pint and ending up 6 cocktails deep and dancing on the pool table.
Coffee is your friend and so is the 24/hr library. If only you hadn’t left all your studying till the last minute. But then again, uni is just as much about enjoying it as it is about working right?
One of the things you’ll the most as a student at Birmingham is definitely the campus. The famous clocktower Old Joe holds a special place in every student’s heart and everyone knows that our campus is simply the best.
