20 Things No One Tells You About Your First Year At The University of East London
Studying in London may seem all fun and games (and it is) but there are a few things you should know beforehand. Being in one of the greatest cities is amazing and you should really take advantage of everything that the city has to offer you, but here are some things you need to clue up on for your first year at the University of East London.
1. It’s very easy to get isolated and feel lonely
Even though you may be studying in one of the best and biggest cities in the world.
2. You’re going to realise that you pay probably triple than uni’s elsewhere on nights out
For tickets, drinks, ubers, etc. And this is just because you’re in London.
3. The SU bar may be small…
…but if you go there with the right people, you will always have a blast.
4. The type of flatmates you get is based on your luck
Just always be considerate.
5. Whenever another Londoner asks you what university you go to, you will always hesitate to say East London
But hey – own it!
6. As much as you try and convince yourself you won’t leave coursework until last minute, that’s not going to work
And you will spend the night before in the library frantically trying to finish off that essay.
7. Most of the time, university is not the place for relationships.
8. The people you met at freshers, you’re never going to talk to them again.
9. Scheduled fire alarms every Thursday at midday are the worst
Especially if you went out the night before.
10. If you were lucky enough to get a room in the east buildings with your kitchen window facing the dock then you have basically won at life.
11. Your food and your dishes will spontaneously go missing and never be seen again
No matter who your flatmates are.
12. Even though you might miss half of your lectures, you can still pass the year and do well
Only if you’re determined and submit all your work in.
13. ‘Pizza on Demand’ is the best place to order pizza
You can’t even argue with me on this.
14. Getting groceries delivered will be your new favourite thing
Rather than making the trek to Asda and bringing back eleven shopping bags.
15. You are going to make some of the best friends at university
And will stay friends with them for life.
16. If you are bored and have nothing to do, just take a walk and explore London
There’s always so much to see.
17. If you manage to lock yourself out of your room, a laminate sheet of paper can do wonders
Just jam it repeatedly in-between the lock and the door.
18. Stay away from the food at the canteen
Just stay away – honestly.
19. If you decide to go to the boat party, chances are you’ll end up outside chain-smoking all night.
20. If you’re new to London, the city may feel overwhelming at times, but once you get used to it, there’s no better place to be.
All the shops you can imagine, every single cuisine of food, every club and artist comes to London. You can pretty much do anything here, make the most of it.
