The Ultimate University Of Brighton Bucket List

As a student currently in my second year at University of Brighton, I have been able to experience a lot of great nights out, fun day activities and tried amazing food – and their is still so much I need to do in my last year! Here is my ultimate bucket list of things to do while at University of Brighton, compiled from my previous experiences and things I am yet to do; and hopefully this will also help you with your University of Brighton experience too!

1. Skinny dipping

I feel like this should be on anyone’s bucket list who is attending a seafront university! It may be cold and stupid but when else are you gonna do it if not at university?

2. Boundary Festival

Just on the outskirts of Brighton, Boundary Festival is a one day event featuring lots of DJs and lots of dancing. The event happens around the end of September so is a great way to kick of the academic year!

3. Drag nights

When you’re studying in the gay capital of England, it would almost be foolish not to attend a drag event! As a town which is so popular with the LGBTQ+ community, we get many drag queens visiting to perform from all over the world.

4. Grubbs Burgers

After excessive drinking and partying on a night out, sometimes you just need a solid burger to end your night perfectly. Grubbs, which is one of Brighton’s local food chains, has THE best burgers and will leave you extremely satisfied.

5. Brighton and Hove Albion football match

A brilliant way to show your spirit and love for Brighton is to go support them in a game at our local AMEX Stadium. While big league matches against more popular clubs may be expensive, there are cheaper games to attend which make for a perfect experience if you are not a massive footie fan.

6. Open mic nights

Brighton is full of upcoming bands, indie bars and alternative music which are usually showcased through open mic nights, which make for a great evening out!

7. Pompoko Japanese restaurant

Going out for food can be expensive, especially when you are on a university budget. If you want a cheap meal out with great food, head to Pompoko in Brighton’s town centre – a small Japanese restaurant in a renovated town house with great tasting, well priced food, and, it’s bring your own drink!

8. Sunset at Brighton Beach

While at Brighton, you have to take advantage of the beach with its amazing sea view. A top tip is to go on a sunny day just before the sunset, grab a beer on the way as well for a great evening with your mates.

9. Music concert at Brighton Dome

While Brighton has its fair share of small indie bands to see in bars, it also has a lot of visiting musicians who play at Brighton Dome! Keep checking who is playing so that if a band you love is visiting you can go and see them.

10. Theatre at Brighton Fringe Festival

Brighton Fringe Festival, which happens during May, brings with it so many great comedic performances that are hard to turn down! Get ready for hilarious stand-up, drunken thespians and too many spoofs to count.

11. Vintage haul in the North Laines

Are you even a University of Brighton student if you don’t own something vintage? Head down to the North Laines to live your shopping dreams in all the quirky and unique shops it offers.

12. Seafront clubs

Brighton is one of the best towns in England for night life, with some of it’s best clubs being below the boulevard on the seafront. (If you’re lucky, on rare nights there is a bouncy castle in the smoking area of The Arch, so keep an eye out!)

13. University of Brighton Halloween Pier Party

Every year, University of Brighton will hire out clubs on Halloween for a massive party on October 31st. While they don’t do it every year, the student union is known to hire out Brighton Pier itself (with free rides as well), this event is one you can’t miss!

14. GloBalls Mini Golf

Looking for a fun activity to do with your friends which isn’t getting drunk (for once)? Head down to Brighton Marina and play a game at GloBalls – a glow in the dark mini golf course with the choice of a dinosaur or jungle theme!

15. Ice skating at the Royal Pavilion

Every year in October, an ice rink is set up in front of the famous Royal Pavilion which stays there until January. University of Brighton does offer student nights at the rink, but if you wanted a quieter time as those can be busy, they offer discounted student tickets as well!
