Curly hair instantly makes it look like you’ve made a big effort, but that’s because it takes a lot of effort. If you’ve got long hair, it can take hours to curl your hair well. Plus, it causes so much damage, and who wants that? So what if I said there are three ways that you can get heat-free curly hair, you wouldn’t believe me right? Well then, read on…
The headband method is possibly most ideal for those with short to mid-length hair, and it can get a bit fiddly, but it is so worth it as if done right, the results can be great. All you need for this is a stretchy, elasticated headband and possibly a couple of grips and some hair spray if you have fine or layered hair.
This method is very simple but can take a few goes to perfect. All you have to do is make sure your hair is damp and put the headband over the top of your head, so it sits just above your eyebrows. You then take your hair in small chunks and wrap it over the top of the hair band, slowly working your way around your head adding in a new piece of hair each time, until your whole head of hair is wrapped around the headband. If you have layers or particularly fine hair, you might struggle to get your hair to stay put, so try adding some grips or using a little bit of hair spray to keep it all in place. Then, simply leave the headband in overnight, and then by the next morning, you should have some beautiful curls!
For this, you’ll need some thin strips of fabric (although this has been done in the past with socks, so give the socks a try if you have no fabric!). You’ll want to start with damp hair again, and split it into four even sections (more sections for tighter curls and less sections for looser curls) and then use the rag to roll sections of hair around it and then tie the rag up to hold the hair around the fabric tightly enough to leave a curl. Try covering your head with a hair net or scarf to keep all of the rags in place overnight, and then simply go get your beauty sleep and you should wake up with some great curls!
If done properly, a twisted plait can give really beautiful curls and it requires nothing but hairbands. Depending on how long and thick your hair is and how tight you want your curls, you can either do one plait or several plaits. This isn’t your usual plait or braid, and it might take some practise to get this right, but once you’ve got the hang of it you’ll be doing it every night to get those quick, easy and effortless curls!
Just as you would for a regular plait, separate your hair, only for this you’ll want two sections of hair for each braid, rather than three or four. Simply, twist each section around each other. As you repeat this, you will see a twist starting to form. Keep the twists tight for really defined curls, or keep them loose for messier curls. Start higher up on your scalp for lots of curls, or start lower down for a few curls at the ends of your hair. When you’ve completed the twist, simply tie it tight with a hairband and then go get your beauty sleep. When you wake up in the morning, gently untwist the hair and apply some hair spray for beautiful curls.
