Awards season is over (for now) and has been packed full of political statements, questionable winners, and of course plenty of red carpet fashion moments. Our fave celebs put in a solid effort this year to serve us the looks we’ve been impatiently waiting for, and succeeded in delivering. Here are the best red carpet looks from 2018 so far:
Plunge, teal, embroidery, a train, sheer, and backless. So much going on, and it so works. Betty looks like an actual princess in this Tony Ward gown, complete with curls and radiant skin. All she needs is a tiara and I’m not convinced she didn’t step straight out of a Disney film.
Elie Saab never seems to fail, and this Spring 2016 Couture dress is no different. Channelling elegant, old Hollywood vibes, Zoey looks stunning in the intricately embellished gown, and her hair and makeup artists deserve Oscars themselves.
Have you ever seen a more fierce woman? The sheer black Vera Wang dress, combined with sharp bob and dark lip, screams “I am not a woman to be played with”, and she looks damn good for it. I want to know her routine for looking this good, and I want to know it now.
Did this dress come out of one of your dreams? It might have. The pink Mui Mui dress with a feathered middle that shouldn’t work but does is genuinely beautiful. Margot’s barely there and barely any effort approach to hair and makeup perfectly compliments it too.
Modern Cinderella is definitely the best way to describe this look. Guerrero wears the most updated take on a typical red carpet ball gown to come out of this year and has the most on point makeup to match. And that skirt looks like a lot of fun to wear.
The Black Panther actress did the absolute most with the ‘all-black’ protest in honour of the #metoo movement, looking stunning in this Gucci dress. The contrast between delicate straps and bold buckle and embellishment of bees somehow works.
In one of the best red carpet looks that’s more casual than the others on this list, Holly created one of the best looks from 2018’s award season. The cute buttoned/feathered white tuxedo dress with simple black heels and red lippy is so well put together that it could challenge any ball gown.
The lead actress in Ladybird gets many, many fashion points for this look. The structured baby pink Calvin Klein dress with matching shoes and subtle makeup is a well thought out look with maximum rewards. The huge bow at the back is also very brave- but it works.
Long, black and victorian should make for a very dull dress, but Louis Vuitton made sure it would pit Alicia a cut above the rest. Cute embroidery, sheer sleeves and a cut hole back update the look, and sleek makeup and hair create a truly elegant look.
This is the ultimate jumpsuit. Strapless, a massive (completely necessary) bow, and to-die-for train. Yara looks so effortless in her minimalist outfit, and not to mention totally comfortable. 10/10.
