The Top 10 Reasons To Love 10 Things I Hate About You
10 things I hate about you is by far my favourite movie and has been for years now, it’s funny, cute and not just like all the other teen movies made around the 00s. For those of you who don’t know the movie, 10 things I hate about you is a teen movie made in 1999 which is a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare’s The Taming Of The Shrew. It’s about a girl who wants to go to prom so she gets a guy who has a crush on her to pay another guy to go out with her older sister so that she goes to prom, I know that sounds a little confusing but you have to watch the movie to understand it. Trust me it’s not like every other teen movie, this is actually a great story.
1. Kat is so relatable
Kat is my favourite character from the whole 10 things I hate about you movie, she is one of the lead actresses and she isn’t a girly girl who wears pink all the time and drools over guys, she the opposite. She hates guys, is smart and has the best comebacks, she is nothing like the other girls from teen movies who are helpless without a guy.
2. Patrick Verona
Patrick Verona is played by Heath Ledger who is not too bad on the eyes, he plays a bad boy who has to date Kat, he is funny, cute and turns out to be a really good guy. And do I even have to describe how sexy his accent is? You will not believe Heath Ledger goes on to play The Joker after watching this movie.
3. The scene where Patrick sings
This has to be the best scene from the entire movie, Patrick gets up in front of everyone and starts singing to try to get Kat’s attention and it’s the cutest thing ever. It’s from this point on that you realise they’re starting to fall for each other.
4. Kat and Bianca’s dad
Their dad is the very overprotective type who doesn’t let his daughters do anything. And knowing that Kat is repulsed by guys he makes a rule which says that Bianca can’t date till Kat does. My favourite quote from him has to be “and hell is just a sauna” which just tells you how overprotective he is. He even has a pregnancy vest to show the girls what it’s like to be pregnant.
5. Bianca’s really smart tactic
Bianca is Kat’s younger sister who can’t date unless Kat dates, Bianca is your stereotypical girly girl who is actually smarter than you think. She gets a guy who likes her (Cameron) to get Patrick to go out with her sister so that she can go out with her crush who is Joey, it sounds confusing but it’s actually genius and something we can all learn from.
6. Patrick and Kat’s love hate relationship
Neither of them actually like each other at the start, Patrick is doing it for the money and Kat is doing it so that Bianca can go on a date, and from the moment they start dating to when they fall in love they have this cute love hate relationship, they both have snarky comments and pretend to hate each other.
7. It has a few important points though
By now you must’ve figured out that it’s not a fairy tale kind of movie, there’s actually a few important points to it. Behind all the jokes, there is a story of a girl who doesn’t do things to impress other people, a girl who finds out that boys are trash and to not judge a book by it’s cover.
8. The funny teacher
Patrick and Kat’s English teacher is another hilarious character in this movie, he’s one of those teachers you like because they’re not strict and really funny. One of my favorite quotes of his has to be “Someday, you gonna get b****-slapped and I’m not gonna do a thing to stop it.”
9. The paintballing date
The fact that they went paintballing instead of just going for a dinner is another thing to admire about this movie, it is busting stereotypes. It’s also the first time Patrick and Kat kiss which is so cute.
10. The 10 Things I hate about you sonnet
Of course this has to be the best thing about the movie, after Kat finds out Patrick was paid to go out with her she was hurt and wrote this sonnet for her English class:
“I hate the way you talk to me, and the way you cut your hair. I hate the way you drive my car. I hate it when you stare. I hate your big dumb combat boots, and the way you read my mind. I hate you so much it makes me sick; it even makes me rhyme. I hate it, I hate the way you’re always right. I hate it when you lie. I hate it when you make me laugh, even worse when you make me cry. I hate it when you’re not around, and the fact that you didn’t call. But mostly I hate the way I don’t hate you. Not even close, not even a little bit, not even at all.”
Kat even cries at the end of it and it melts our hearts.
