Bring your own booze is always the sign of a restaurant where you will have a good time, and Cook House is no different. Hidden away, super cheap, changing menus, and in a shipping container. Travel to Ouseburn for this local gem.
There’s a massive tree in The Botanist. And it’s beautiful. Honestly, try to pay attention to your date- it’s hard. The menu is also really, really good, and it’s right in the middle of Newcastle’s city centre- so you don’t have to worry about travelling.
Spread over 3 massive floors, As You Like It in Jesmond has some of the funkiest decor in all of Newcastle. It is so Insta-perfect, that even marriages have taken place. 4 bars, a big terrace, and lots of live music. Give it a go.
Hanging lanterns, herb pods, this restaurant has the most picture potential, as well as a menu to die for. The indie restaurant in the heart of the city serves the best pizzas and salads. And brunch!
Just outside Shieldfields, Kiln is very cool. Mediterranean food, relaxed interior, and pottery that gets made in-house (and available to buy). A bit of a way out if you’re close to the city centre, but worth a shot.
Everything here is inspired by the 192o’s, from the decor to the menu, and you will certainly enjoy the theme. Grab a cocktail and some fancy food, or even go with a group for a tipsy tea. Colonel Porter’s is really a lot of fun.

A Turkish restaurant set in Jesmond, but with a very traditional feeling. The interior is loosely put together, but incredibly cosy. The staff give the warmest of welcomes, and the chefs give the absolute best of food.
If you’re a lover of burgers and quirky spaces, then this is one of the best Newcastle restaurants. The food is to die for. It’s a brick-lined cellar space and mega-popular with students- perhaps for the selection of craft beers.
