The Top 10 Coolest Newcastle Restaurants To Try Out

Finding the money to spend on a foody trip can be hard (basically impossible) as a student, but so good if you have the money to spare, or can get a tenner out of your parents. Luckily for students in Newcastle, there’s a vast array of cool Newcastle restaurants in and around the city centre to choose from. Here are the best.

1. Peace and Loaf

Right in the student heart of Jesmond, this independent restaurant serves up amazing experimental British cuisine in a quirky space full of character. Featuring a mezzanine floor and modern interior- you shouldn’t miss this.

2. Cook House

Bring your own booze is always the sign of a restaurant where you will have a good time, and Cook House is no different. Hidden away, super cheap, changing menus, and in a shipping container. Travel to Ouseburn for this local gem.

3. The Botanist

There’s a massive tree in The Botanist. And it’s beautiful. Honestly, try to pay attention to your date- it’s hard. The menu is also really, really good, and it’s right in the middle of Newcastle’s city centre- so you don’t have to worry about travelling.

4. As You Like It

Spread over 3 massive floors, As You Like It in Jesmond has some of the funkiest decor in all of Newcastle. It is so Insta-perfect, that even marriages have taken place. 4 bars, a big terrace, and lots of live music. Give it a go.

5. Herb Garden

Hanging lanterns, herb pods, this restaurant has the most picture potential, as well as a menu to die for. The indie restaurant in the heart of the city serves the best pizzas and salads. And brunch!

6. Kiln

Just outside Shieldfields, Kiln is very cool. Mediterranean food, relaxed interior, and pottery that gets made in-house (and available to buy). A bit of a way out if you’re close to the city centre, but worth a shot.

7. Colonel Porter’s

Everything here is inspired by the 192o’s, from the decor to the menu, and you will certainly enjoy the theme. Grab a cocktail and some fancy food, or even go with a group for a tipsy tea. Colonel Porter’s is really a lot of fun.

8. Quay Ingredient

White tiling and tightly packed tables give this cafe a minimalist vibe, but with a warm welcome and relaxing vibe to it. It’s also incredibly cheap. Were talking £1.95 sandwiches, guys.

9. Caspian

A Turkish restaurant set in Jesmond, but with a very traditional feeling. The interior is loosely put together, but incredibly cosy. The staff give the warmest of welcomes, and the chefs give the absolute best of food.

10. Fat Hippo Underground

If you’re a lover of burgers and quirky spaces, then this is one of the best Newcastle restaurants. The food is to die for. It’s a brick-lined cellar space and mega-popular with students- perhaps for the selection of craft beers.

Better start saving those pennies for these Newcastle restaurants! Let us know if you’ve been to any in the comment section below!
