We all know that our lives are the busiest they have ever been. Which can make it easy to fall into our own inner turmoil. We as women all wish we could be slimmer, happier and more successful. Yet, the majority of the time we realise that this is unrealistic.
So if you want to distract yourself – from your shambolic life – then there are plenty of ways to do this. My favourite way of ignoring my inner demons is by settling down with a glass of wine and switching on my beloved leading ladies. Below is my list of the top leading ladies who will make you feel better about your own life.
Any woman who proclaims, ‘I’m the crazy bitch around here’, to a woman who has hurt her friend, is one of the best leading ladies in my book. The reasons Blair Waldorf will make you feel better is because she never settles, bounces back continuously, constantly plot’s people’s downfalls and is a loyal friend. Blair is a go-getter and isn’t afraid to stand on anyone’s toes in order to succeed.
Her on/off again relationship with Chuck Bass will have you swooning, crying and laughing. People first tuned in to Gossip Girl for Serena but you’ll stay for the comedic timing of Blair.
Ever since, Renee Zellweger portrayed a curvy woman, with adoration for wine, I, like many others fell in love with her. The franchise portrays a woman in her thirties worrying about her love life or lack thereof. Bridget Jones is someone who can not get anything right. She constantly tries but fails miserably.
Whether she cooks up a feast of blue soup, arrives at a party in a bunny costume or falls for the wrong guys, she embraces every wrong decision. Which only makes people love her more. The reason she will make you feel better about your life is because she is an incredibly relatable leading lady. Your problems couldn’t be any worse than hers so get ready to laugh and cry at the tale of Bridget Jones.
From the moment we are introduced to the ‘girl on fire,’ we realise she isn’t the stereotypical leading lady. She lives in a society where sixteen kids have to kill each other- in a tournament – to survive. Katniss is a loyal, noble and protective heroine.
We see this from the minute she volunteers in the place of her younger sister. Katniss’ life is hectic and brutal which will make your problems seem like your strolling in the Garden of Eden.
Alyssa is a troubled youth, who doesn’t ‘trust people who fit in’. She is a complicated and well developed leading lady. The viewer can see through all her straight-talking bluster as her relationship with James slowly develops.
This a girl that has a heart of gold although she deeply hides behind her facade. Within a story that focuses on a road trip and the many crimes the two leads commit. Alyssa will make you feel better because she is constantly in trouble yet plays it off with her own bravado.
This is the leading lady that has had the most influence within my life. At fourteen years old I couldn’t wait for the newest episode of One Tree Hill. Brooke was a late addition to the cast but slowly became a cast favourite. Brooke is charming, talented, caring and complicated. She has to face many situations to face and does so with elegance.
Viewers see her unlucky in love, struggle when her designs are stolen, and deal with a terrible mother and an unusual best friend relationship. Through it all, Brooke kept her confidence and changed from ‘a lost little party girl to the girl on the wall of honour.’
In this series, J.K Rowling’s boy wizard got given all of the credit. When Hermione was the true brains behind the operation. Hermione is hardworking and constantly studying. Most people love her as a leading lady because she is flawed yet relatable.
In a world that accepts magical beasts, it can be difficult to wrap your head around people who don’t think Hermione belongs. She is magically gifted, hard-working, loyal and unafraid of voicing her opinions. Her determination in the face of true evil will highlight the tough circumstances she faces. Lose yourself in Rowling’s world and forget your own life for a few hours.
People will think that Miranda is the villain in this movie, yet she’s only doing her job. If her character was a man no-one would bother one bit. Miranda is an extremely successful editor in chief, mother, and wife on the surface. Yet as the movie progresses we realise that Miranda is an extremely lonely woman whose marriage is in turmoil.
She is also under threat of being replaced by a younger colleague. Meryl Streep’s performance of this high powered woman is flawless. Miranda’s chaotic and workaholic life will definitely make you appreciate your own life.
