The Health Benefits Of Turmeric That Are Shocking And Helpful

You may have heard a lot about Turmeric recently or you might not, but either way it’s quite a strange craze that has taken off. We have listed all of health benefits that the spice is said to have, so why not give it a try and see if they work for you? Turmeric comes from a plant called ‘Curcuma longa’ plant, which grows in India and many other countries. It is the dried root of the plant which is then grounded to create the bright yellow turmeric powder that we all know and which is commonly sold in this form. This powder contains ‘curcumin’ which is the good stuff and holds all of the health perks and health benefits of turmeric!

1)Anti-inflamatory

Anything from joint swelling to infections could be aided with Turmeric. Some even say it can compete with anti-inflammatory drugs such as Ibuprofen. There are also many studies that hint to curcumin’s abilities could aide arthritis pain.

2)Anti-oxident

This means turmeric is good for your skin- hallelujah! Try adding to a homemade face mask to sooth any break-outs, but be warned, the spice stains very easily so don’t be alarmed if your face is a little yellow after, it will fade once you have thoroughly washed your face!

4)Anti-cancer

According to Cancer Research UK “curcumin does have anticancer effects. It seems to be able to kill cancer cells and prevent more from growing. It has the best effects on breast cancer, bowel cancer, stomach cancer and skin cancer cells.”

As mentioned before, Turmeric has been compared to Ibuprofen which is sometimes prescribed to thin blood, therefore curcumin has similar effects and can be used to prevent blood from clotting.

6)Heart health

In the same way, the blood thinning attributes of Turmeric means it can be used to lower blood pressure and limit serious heart diseases.

7)Nutrition

Full of the likes of protein, vitamin C, calcium and iron; make sure you’re packing plenty of turmeric into your curry!

8)Digestive aid

Many talk about the ways curcumin can help with digestion so say goodbye to bloating.

9)Oral health

There are some studies about how turmeric can improve oral hygiene, whether that be reducing plaque or preventing bleeding gums. Curcumin gel is also said to help with mouth ulcers.

10)Cold and flu remedy

Due to the all round goodness provided by curcumin, it is said to be a general aid for colds and the flu virus. Believed to relieve common symptoms such as nasal congestion and coughing, apparently turmeric milk is a household remedy in India for treating colds.
