Every year welcomes its newest batch of weird food trends circulating on healthy Instagram pages, and this year has been no different. From vegetable coffee to fermented soups, there is a lot that we don’t like the sound of, but are apparently great for you. Here are some of the health and wellness food trends taking 2018 by storm.
The moringa tree is being hailed as a superfood because of the sheer amount of nutrients within it. We’re talking vitamin C, A, iron, and zinc. Available in the likes of tablets, teas, and a ton more foody bits. Benefits have been said to include lowering cholesterol and inflammation, so this healthy trend is worth a try.
Essential oils in food are essentially used as flavouring agents, but they provide a great source of wellness too. Lavender, peppermint, ginger and cardamom are all oils that can be used in recipes, to give a few examples. Just make sure to use a recipe, as some oils can be slightly on the less healthy side if too much is used.
Going vegan is set to be one of the biggest health trends of 2018, with lots of people catching on to its health benefits, as well as it’s animal rights benefits too. So, it seems right that plenty of trendy vegan cafe’s will be opening in 2018 too. Keep an eye out in your city.
Superfood status can easily be applied to this fruit, boasting benefits to the skin, heart, weight loss, and not to mention helping out dry eyes and diabetes. Mostly used as a powder, maqui berries can be used in a multitude of tasty recipes.
A protein source, a lactose-free milk substitute, and a good cholesterol booster, these “nuts” are a must try in 2018, especially in different recipe forms. Though they’ve been around and recognised for their healthy assets for a long time, they’re making a comeback in 2018, and we are excited.
