5 Of The Best Things To Do On A Trip To Glasgow

Glasgow is easily one of my favourite cities in the UK, and for good reason! It is an incredibly beautiful city, with a multitude of amazing bars and restaurants, making it the perfect destination for a city break for a few days, or longer. Here are some of my favourite things to do on a trip to Glasgow!

1. Spend the day getting lost in Kelvingrove Park and The Botanical Gardens

The Botanical Gardens have been one of my favourite places in Glasgow since I was a young child. Unlike many other Botanical Gardens in the UK, the Glasgow Botanical Gardens doesn’t make you pay to enter, so you can spend hours looking at the beautiful plants, and gawking at the Kibbles Palace free of charge.  Botanical Gardens, you can walk down the river to Kelvingrove Park, another beautiful area of Glasgow. Both the Botanical Gardens and Kelvingrove Park are incredibly beautiful, which massive amounts of trees, flowers and shrubs as far the eye can see). Buy an ice cream, lie out on the grass, soak up the sun (provided it’s not raining), and just watch the world go by.

2. Spend a night on Ashton Lane

Ashton Lane is in the West End of Glasgow, a district which is trendy, full of students, and full of amazing bars and restaurants. Ashton Lane is the creme de la creme; it is a beautiful cobbled street behind Glasgow’s busy Byres Road. Ashton Lane has many quaint beer gardens, perfect for soaking up rays and having a pint or two. There’s also many restaurants serving lovely local cuisine, and many Scottish classics, and a great selection of locally brewed beers. As well as this, there’s the Grosvenor cinema, a lovely, small, independent cinema, with cosy sofas and a great range of snacks. Ashton Lane is a must visit on a trip to Glasgow.

3. Visit The Kelvingrove Museum and the Gallery of Modern Art

One of the best things to do, on a trip anywhere, is to visit a local museum or art gallery, as it isn’t something that most people normally have time to do, and it gives you a great insight to what the local culture is like! The Gallery of Modern Art and Kelvingrove Museum have amazing exhibitions, artwork, and are a great place to go to to learn more about the history of Glasgow! They are also both free, so this is a great thing to do on a trip to Glasgow, particularly if you’re on a budget.

4.  Go Shopping on Buchanan Street

Glasgow easily has some of the best shopping in the UK. From enormous H&M’s, Urban Outfitter’s and Topshop’s, to the high-end brands in Princess Square, spending the day shopping on Buchanan street is an activity which will never get old. The centre of Glasgow is also filled with amazing bars and restaurants, to finish off the day when you shop until you drop. And if you aren’t satisfied at the end of all that, head to ‘The Lighthouse’, have a meander around the exhibits and go up to the top for an incredible view of the city.

5. Walk along the Clyde

Sometimes when you’re on a city break, you don’t want to pack your days with too many busy activities.  Taking a lovely long stroll along Glasgow’s River Clyde is a great activity. You can see a large part of the city, and it’s lovely and calming. Head to Finneston after walking along the Clyde for drinks and food, for a lovely end to a perfect day.
