Berlin – the coolest capital ever! If you’re looking for a city with an interesting history, a world-renowned music scene, cool art, fashion, food and an array of cultures – we suggest you visit this creative and cosmopolitan capital. Here are (just a few!) of the best things to do in Berlin.
It’s an open air-gallery that stretches a mile long and is located in the Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg part of Berlin. It was once the point of divide between East and West Berlin but it’s now a colourful and cool gallery. The perfect place to get that Instagram post!
The clubs in Berlin are world famous, so it’s a great opportunity for you to throw yourself into the best techno and electronic music there is! Berghain, known as the “temple of techno” is the best place to experience a night like no other. Lengthy queues and intimidating bouncers are all part of your quest of acceptance into the temple of techno. If you’re lucky enough to get in – they even turned away Paris Hilton – be prepared for a night, day and night again of dancing here.
When you think of Berlin, pool parties don’t really come to mind, but prepare to be surprised – they’re one of the best things to do in Berlin! Badschiff, a floating pool in the middle of the Spree offers up a man-made beach, bars and regular DJs; the perfect place to chill out with friends. A second pool located nearby is Haubentaucher, another hotspot in the city. It has more of an upmarket beach club vibe to that of Badschiff, but still a definite must go!
Berlin is a hub for foodies and it offers up, possibly, the best burgers on earth. The capital is home to the most iconic German burger place, Burgermeister, which now boasts two locations in the city. Grab a burger and fuel yourself before you hit the dance floor in one of the famous clubs!
Regularly voted the most hipster but coolest neighbourhood in the world, Kreuzberg is where all the cool kids hang! Stop in a cool coffee shop and watch the world go by or head to one of the many wine bars for something sweeter. A great thing to do in this neighbourhood is walk around and observe all the street art – join a street art walking tour if you have the time!
They are alternative, individual, and they are very Berlin. The galleries in Auguststraße are a must see among the top things to do in Berlin, especially for any art lover. After visiting one (or all – its hard to pick one to see!), stop off at any of the nearby trendy restaurants for a meal, a great and relaxed way to spend an afternoon in the city – especially if you’re nursing a hangover from the night before.
Last but not least, divulge in Berlin’s dark but fascinating past. Visit the Memorial to the Murdered Jews of Europe that is both astonishingly beautiful and a harrowing reminder of what Berlin has faced. Or take your pick from the hundreds of museums dotted across the city – some museums are free on particular days, perfect if you’re on a budget. The Topography of Terror is also an exhibit you must visit, created to face and accept the atrocities that Berlin has witnessed in its past.
