The Best Places To Visit In Manchester’s Northern Quarter

Manchester’s northern quarter is known for being one of the up and coming cities in the UK. If there is ever a place that could be dubbed exciting, bright and completely fantastic in the North West of England, then this is it. Known for its avocation of the arts and the thriving student culture, there is never a dull moment.

One of the most interesting places to explore is by far the Manchester’s northern quarter of the city, where you can find a plethora of different independent businesses. There is always a new cafe to discover or a vinyl record shop to peruse. And if you’re ever around on a Sunday, be sure not to miss out on the Makers Market where you can sample all of these things for the first time.

1. Oklahoma

This store is an experience in itself because in part, it feels like going back in time. There are all manner of cool things to discover that will make your day of shopping into an adventure back down memory lane.

From your favourite childhood toys to unique gifts and fun stationery, Oklahoma has something for everyone to enjoy and is by far one of the hidden gems of the Northern Quarter. How will you know when you see it? Just watch out for the penguin!

2. Chapter One Books

If you’re a complete book worm and are also a big fan of delicious homemade cake, you’ll adore Chapter One. Located just around the corner from Oklahoma, Chapter One Books has an array of yummy treats to choose from (including dishes of the day and jaffa-cake cake!) as well as books to peruse.

It’s a great spot to pause a busy day in and also hosts a range of events which are free to the public such as creative writing groups. Independent bookshops have something about them that is extra special and a welcome break from the usual chain stores too, so not one to miss out on.

3. The Pen And Pencil

The Manchester’s northern quarter of the city is jam-packed with exciting spots to explore and independent restaurants aplenty, including the delectably quirky Pen And Pencil. Designed to bring a touch of 1960’s New York to a British city renowned for blending the old with the new, the breakfast and cocktails alike are made to the highest of standards.

4. Manchester Cat Cafe

The cat cafe is already achieving its mission of helping calm hectic lives by inviting the public to spend time with cats whilst enjoying a hot chocolate or two. Pop by if you’re having a particularly stressful day to see these gorgeous felines, many of them rescue cats, in their natural habitat.

You can celebrate birthdays here, attend movie nights or just stop by for a relaxing half an hour. However you experience the cat cafe, it’s certainly going to be a lasting memory and one that will make your week that extra bit special.
