Travelling has always been important to me. I think it’s something that everyone should do at least once in their life, as it can really open your mind to different cultures and lifestyles you didn’t know about and it can teach you so much about yourself! Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam have always been popular for traveller newbies, but there are so many more gems to see in the world that are just as easy to travel around, so here’s a list of the best places to go travelling in 2018 to set your wanderlust on fire!
As one of the largest countries within Central America you’d expect it to be writhing with tourists, but compared to its more popular neighbours Belize and Costa Rica, it’s a hidden paradise. With mountains to hike, beaches to relax on and beautiful architecture to admire, you won’t get bored and will be able to enjoy it in solitude. Definitely one of the best places to go travelling.
In the past, many tourists would have been advised to stay away from this beautiful country, but that is all in the past, as it has now become one of the most popular countries in South America. Trek to the Lost City or explore the Tierradentro National park to be marvelled by Colombia’s beauty.
If you want to travel a country that has beautiful tropical beaches, modern cities and mountains to ski within Asia, Japan is the place to go. In the last couple of years, backpackers have been flocking to the country to see what it has to offer, and have fallen in love with the culture and beauty of the country. It will be pricier than a lot of other countries in Asia, but worth every penny.
This country is often underrated due to neighbouring tourist hotspots, Thailand and Singapore, but I assure you that it is worth a visit. If you’re the type to be at one with nature, make sure you visit Malaysia for its jungles in Borneo and where you can see tigers and orangutans or head to Spidan to scuba dive in one of the best sites in the world. Nature lovers, this is one of the best places to go travelling.
Why not travel somewhere closer to home and immerse yourself in Scandinavian culture. It will be one of the more expensive places you will travel around, but there are lots of ways to do it cheaply. Explore Stockholm where you’ll never get bored or explore the freezing but beautiful landscape in Lapland
Prepare your senses before you arrive here, as the noise, smells and colours of this country can overwhelm you, but this will just add to the experience. Be wowed by street performers in Marrakesh or sleep under the stars in the Sahara desert. This country has a lot of amazing things to offer if you feel prepared to take it.
If you want to go to a country that is filled with scenery’s that will leave you speechless, Iceland is where you should go. This tiny island has every type of scenery you could imagine; you can see volcano, lagoons, waterfalls and the famous Northern Lights. Be prepared to be closing your dropped jaw multiple times on your trip here.
This is the place to go if you want to live the dream of escaping to a faraway exotic island. There are two main islands in Fiji and nearly 900 smaller islands and insets. It will be pretty easy to find a secluded beach to have all to yourself. Despite being known for its luxury resorts, Fiji is filled with affordable guesthouses so you won’t be breaking the bank either.
This country has a special place in my heart, and everyone should visit it at least once. You’ll be lost for choices of where to go and do here, as there are 7000 islands to choose from. Start your trip viewing the beautiful beaches and islands in El Nido, Palawan, then head over to Cebu island to go canyoneering in Moalboal while finally stopping in Boracay to finish your trip partying. Make sure you immerse yourself with the locals while you’re here, as they are some of the funniest, genuine and friendly people you’ll ever meet.
If you want to challenge yourself with a long trip to a huge country, India is your best bet. You have so much to see; from the beaches down in Goa, the architecture in the Golden Triangle and treks in Himachal Pradesh, you will need a lot of time but thankfully not a lot of money. India is ridiculously cheap! Making it super accessible. India has had a bad rep in the past for being unsafe and dirty. But if you travel around you’ll see that it’s a beautiful spiritual country with amazing food and great people. This is definitely my next stop this year.
