The Best Places To Go For Drinks In Birmingham

Going to be starting university in Birmingham this September and looking for some cool places to go for drinks? Or are you going back for your second or third year and looking for some new places to take your friends for drinks? Well, we’ve got you covered. Here are eight of the best bars and pubs in Birmingham that promise to give you and your friends a great night out.

1. The Botanist

Located on Temple Street, The Botanist is a very unique bar that offers a very unique night out. Described as a secret garden of food and drink, The Botanist offers a very unusual menu of deletable meals and cocktails – if you are looking for something a little bit weird and wonderful, The Botanist is going to be ideal for you. This is a great place for a fancy night out, with cool drinks such as the mango and plum cooler (I would 10/10 recommend) and a great selection of foods, including some great vegan and gluten free options too!

2. Be At One

Situated super conveniently just opposite New Street train station, Be At One makes for a great night out with the girls. With extremely Instagrammable cocktails and great 2 for 1 offers available, Be At One offers sweet, sour and spicy cocktails, and even offers mixing masterclasses – a great way to spend a special occasion! With wild cocktails that contain bueno chocolate bars, mars bars, and super fruity cocktails that don’t even taste alcoholic, you will be sure to find something you like on the Be At One menu.

3. Bacchus Bar

The vaulted ceilings and dark wood tables of Bacchus Bar will be giving you wild Harry Potter vibes. Think old dark wood book cases, marbled floors, and ceilings, cool staircases, Bacchus bar is anything but ordinary. It is a great casual place to meet friends for drinks after a hard day at university or to meet work colleagues after a long day at work. It makes for a great starting place for a night out, or can even be a great place to spend your whole night out. With cask ales and a real crowd-pleasing menu, Bacchus bar is just opposite from the New Street station, so is super convenient if you are having a one off trip into Brum, are just passing through, or have just arrived for a while.

4. The Lost & Found

The Lost & Found is located just out of the very centre of Birmingham, up on Bennetts Hill. It is pretty hard to miss, in a very grand Victorian building. If you consider yourself to be a cocktail connoisseur, The Lost & Found is a great bar to go in and let loose trying out the cocktail menu. My personal favourites are the ‘Red Sky at Night’ and the ‘Honey Bee’. This place definitely isn’t a Wetherspoons – the menus are a little on the more pricey side, so it is definitely the kind of place that you might want to save for special occasions like birthdays or anniversaries.

5. The Cosy Club

Also located on Bennetts Hill, making it the ideal follow on from The Lost & Found, The Cosy Club is exactly what you would expect from the title – it is a super cosy bar with plush sofas and huge comfy cushions that will have you feeling like you are right at home whilst in the centre of Birmingham surrounded by great drinks (and great food too!). The Cosy Club has a very extensive cocktail menu, with a good mixture of your well-known favourite cocktails and your more unique fancy cocktails. Plus, if you are someone who isn’t too into drinking alcohol, The Cosy Club offers some equally fantastic mocktails – what more could you want!

6. The Jekyll and Hyde

Now, if you are looking for somewhere vibrant and quirky, The Jekyll and Hyde will 100% be your cup of tea (or should I say your cocktail?). With a wild and whacky bright purple decor that, as you would expect, depicts Jekyll and Hyde, it is definitely anything but your ordinary bar. If you and your friends are looking for something a little different to try, the Jekyll and Hyde is well worth a visit the next time you are all out for drinks! Beware though that the Jekyll and Hyde is very much focused on gin, so if you aren’t a gin lover, maybe check the menu out before heading in. And, well if you are a gin lover, then you will be in your absolute element at the Jekyll and Hyde.

7. The Ghetto Golf bar

If The Jekyll and Hyde wasn’t quite enough for you in the way of vibrancy and quirkiness, The Ghetto Golf bar will certainly hit the spot. If you are still yet to visit the famous Ghetto Golf place at the Custard Factory (a ten-minute walk east of the centre of Birmingham), then you certainly need to get on it as it is an absolute spectacle for the eyes and for the cocktail lovers! It definitely isn’t a cheap night out, so save this one for pay days, but it is well worth the money! And while you are there testing out their super cool cocktail menu, why not give the golf a go too? Just be sure to book in advance as Ghetto Golf gets pretty booked up pretty fast – book at least a week in advance. You are totally free to pop over to the bar though anytime, so why not give it a go?

So, whether you’re new to Birmingham, or you’re returning, or even if you are a local, if you haven’t already, check out these eight bars and pubs with your friends this autumn! Let us know in the comments below if you’ve ever visited any of the above, or even let us know if you can recommend anywhere else to go for drinks in Birmingham – we’d love to know!
