The Best Places To Cry At Canterbury Christ Church University

We all get bad days. Times when everything gets too much and overwhelming. It happens to the best of us. Sometimes, we just need to take a few moments in a quiet area, take a few deep breaths and take a moment to calm down. Sometimes, we just need to let it out in an isolated spot and cry.  When you need a few moments to pause, here are some places to cry in Canterbury Christ Church University.

1. By Maxwell Davies building

The Maxwell Davies building is one of the buildings for music and performing artists at Canterbury and there are several places to sit around it too. There are a few occasions where the students have lunch here but most of the time, it’s quiet. If you need some space, there is a bench just by the side of it if you want to sit on your own.

2. Coleridge house

It was only during my last year at university that they cleared away the bushes and made a clear space for people to sit down. It’s a lovely and secluded space if you need somewhere to be alone.

3. Chapel

This is one of the most famous buildings at Canterbury Christ Church University and can be seen from a lot of different places round the university. When there aren’t any events going on, its always open to those who need to some time alone. There are so many places to cry and sit here.

4. Chaplaincy centre

Just in the corner of the university, there is a small building where the chaplains are. There is usually a quiet seating area you can go to if you need to cry. There are also staff just around the corner too if you need to have a chat with someone. You don’t have to be a Christian to come in here. All of the staff are really friendly and lovely to talk to.

5. St Martins Priory

This building is slightly disconnected to the main campus but holds a few members of staff and places for meetings. It has a lovely bit of greenery, so you can sit down and cry if you need too.

6. Outside St Gregory’s

Another place slightly off from the campus. Here is where many of the concerts take place. If you go behind the building itself, there is a large isolated spot where you can take a breath or two. You can only get in if the gates are open so double check when they are and try to avoid the concerts as there are masses of people coming in and out of the building during these times.

However, if you can’t find anywhere quiet round the university, here are a few places you can go around the city.

1. Dane John Gardens

One of the most renown parks in Canterbury. Its beautiful first thing in the morning on a sunny day. There are several places to cry such as the benches and corners of the park when the grass is dry.

2. Westgate Gardens

Another lovely park full of flowers and greenery full of different places to cry. If you need to go for walk to help you calm down, there are several pathways you can take. There is also a small river here for you to look at to help distract your mind.

3. Lady Woolton’s Garden

This is just outside of the university but it’s a lovely, secluded place to sit. Its usually quiet when it during the early evening so if you need to cry after a long day in Canterbury, this is a good spot to do it.

4. Hambrook Marshes

I only discovered this place the day before I moved out but its such a quiet and scenic place to be. My friend always used to run here and was greeted by a few animal friends. It is a far distance from the university but if you need to do some walking to help you feel better too, this is a great spot to do it.

If your having a bad day, just remember that these times will pass and its okay to pause for a moment. These places to cry are best to go to either in the evenings or very early on in the morning when they are quiet. Are there any other places that’s not on the list, comment below.
