Makeup is a magical thing. I can love it one day and other days I am having a full-on breakdown because my winged eyeliner has betrayed me. The one thing I do not appreciate is the detrimental effect my love of makeup has on my bank balance. With foundation setting me back £35 a time and then you add all the other products on top. It slowly all adds up. If only there was a way to get the same quality for a fraction of the price. Well if you’re like me these cheaper alternatives will be your saviour. Since I met DoubleWear I felt like there would be nothing quite like the quality of this product. It does everything a foundation is supposed to do. Gives you great coverage whilst giving a good glow which is all you want in a foundation. I honestly thought nothing was going to come close. Until I found the L’Oréal True Match foundation. Retailing for £9.99 it’s a mammoth saving. Without sacrificing any quality. It’s basically a steal. The colour is a slight tone different but that is to be expected as no two brands would have the exact same colour. The benefit of the L’oreal foundation is that its a slightly lighter consistency which actually feels nicer on your pours than double-wear.

The Urban Decay palettes have always had a cult following. Their natural and rosy tones suit nearly any skin tone and the pigmentation of the shades has always been sought after. They also blend easily with little fallout. However, at a price of £42 its hard to justify spending that much money on a product which isn’t a basic. This price is not feasible for a good majority of makeup lovers. Therefore, I went on the hunt for something more affordable for a working-class customer and I found an absolute bargain. Makeup Revolution’s Redemption Iconic 3 Eyeshadow palette matches the Naked 3’s colour tones almost perfectly. Retailing at just £4 it’s hard to justify splurging on the Naked 3 palette when they’re almost identical. The revolution palette is highly pigmented with the only problem being you get more fallout when putting the product on. It also doesn’t have the added extra of a mirror and good quality brush but at a 90% saving, I won’t be complaining.

I know a lot of people are divided on what they think is best for their eyebrows. Between gels, pencils and powders its hard to know which product to pick. The key is to find what is right for you. I find a gel mascara is best. Gimme Brow feels weightless on my eyebrows yet still does the job it sets out to do. It makes my eyebrows fuller and more tinted. Although the small pot doesn’t last terribly long and £21.50 starts to add up when you’re buying it again and again. So my solution was to try NYX tinted brow mascara for £6.50. I can honestly say I have had absolutely no issues with this product and would even say I prefer it over its Benefits counterpart. The brush is larger which I feel covers more of the area quicker and I don’t feel as if I have lost any quality. Definitely a swap I’ll be keeping.

Urban Decay’s All Nighter setting spray has never really been challenged but in recent years the high street has started developing a range to rival this. Paying £24.00 for something to spray on your face seems maddening. However, at the prices of all the makeup together you won’t want to lose a single minute of your makeup staying on. The all Nighter spray does exactly what it promises. It keeps your makeup intact all night which takes away particular stress. I replaced this setting spray with Makeup Obsession’s Fit Fix fixing spray for £6. Now it seems like a massive saving and the product does keep your makeup in place. To an extent. However, when you come in contact with humidity you can feel your foundation slipping. Unfortunately, I wouldn’t buy this again but it won’t stop me trying other fixing sprays to come on the market.

Mac Lipsticks have always been my downfall. I tend to keep clear of the shop or I know I will come out with a new lipstick. The smooth application, the black classy packaging and the scent of vanilla that is infused in these lipsticks make them hard to resist. The colour stays pigmented for ages regardless of where or what you have been doing. It is hard to rival a lipstick from Mac as they are also known for this. But I thought I’d try out a new brand as what would I have to lose? I tried Maybelline colour sensational creamy matte lipstick. Which retails for £6.99. The product was smooth and glided on. The colour stayed for a good few hours and I don’t really have any complaints. I guess I just miss the vanilla scent as you put the product on. But that’s personal not practical.
