1. Tate Modern

The Tate Modern is free to enter, it has international modern and contemporary art. They also have different exhibitions that take place and events that can be attended.

2. Tate Britain

Tate Britain focuses on British art forms from the 1500’s up to present day. If you are looking find out more about the British history of art, this is the perfect place for you. Also a gallery which hosts a variety of different exhibitions and events, majority of which are free.

3. National Portrait Gallery

This gallery is one which houses a collection of historically famous and important British people. Admission is free to this gallery; however, they welcome donations to support its running. Currently showcasing a yearlong exhibition on ‘Rebel Women’ which focuses on the suffragette movement and they will soon be opening one on ‘Victorian Giants: The Birth of Art Photography’.

4. Serpentine Galleries

The serpentine galleries are two contemporary art galleries. Both of them do a variety of different things, such as their annual festival of ideas and an annual architecture programme. The Serpentine Gallery focuses on art during the transition of social change.

5. Whitechapel Gallery

Whitechapel Gallery is a public gallery located in east London in the borough of Tower Hamlets. It was opened in 1901. One of the first publicly funded galleries for temporary exhibitions in London.

6. The Photographer’s Gallery

The photographer’s gallery was the first of its kind to ever be situated in London in 1971. The first gallery in the UK to be dedicated solely to photography. Showcasing a variety of different artists and different photography forms.

7. Saatchi Gallery

The Saatchi Gallery provides a platform for contemporary art produced by young artists or international artists whose work has rarely been showcased. The gallery works as a foundation for artists to build their careers.

8. Courtauld Gallery

The Courthauld Gallery is an art museum based at the Strand entrance of Somerset House in the centre of London. Well known for its vast collection of Impressionist and Post-Impressionist paintings including artists such as Van Gogh and Gauguin. The gallery also showcases sculptures and prints.
